301 redirects

Hey guys, I used the search function and couldn't really find anything current about this topic so I figured I would spark one up as the big G changes the way they look at things all the time.

I am in the finance niche, and I just purchased two domains that have very little backlinks, but two massive backlinks each. And by huge I am talking Reuters,Bloomberg,Yahoo Finance and the LA Times.

Now, I was considering adding these to my PBN, but should I actually consider just 301ing these to my moneysite? Is google hammering sites that do this?

A couple of the anchor texts from these authority sites aren't related, but 2 of them are just " this site" and "website"

Is this still a viable strategy in 2018? Or am I better off just building a PBN with it and using a homepage link to my money site.

Build PBNs out of that. If you think that you will get more bang for your back when you redirect these, then no, you won't.

That was essentially my line of thinking yeah. Because the websites only have a total of 4 and 5 backlinks respectively I figured a redirect may provide more value than paying for hosting and content on a pbn.

Yeah that's not how it works. With correct 301 redirect you have the same, if not more, expenses as compared to a PBN.

Ah ok. I was under the impression I could do a server level redirect from the newly acquired domain to my money site.

What extra process does it entail? I have absolutely ZERO experience with this method, I just kind of stumbled across it when I seen these domains that have very few backlinks, but a couple crazy strong ones.

It's a good idea to do some reading on an unknown method, prior its execution.

You have to build the site up with actual content, host it, let it age, let it get some rank and then redirect it. Then it can take months to be effective and 5RD domains won't make any difference. RD300+ alright, but not RD5. Also, both anchors and backlinks are getting redirected, so if site isn't 100% related, you will screw your money site.

So essentially it's more useful to do this with domains that are still indexed and ranking. And even then the value may not be there because you have a decent site up already.

Borderline. I wouldn't bother, but it depends on your budget entirely. If they really have those niche links and you can't spend $300 on a domain, then they might be worth it.

How many articles would you suggest and how long would you let it age before redirecting? Thanks in advance for a reply :)!

There are never set numbers in IM. The sooner you learn this, the better for you. Build the site normally as you would any other money site. Dozens of articles at the very least. And aging at least 3+ months until it gets natural rank.
 
Here I disagree with Nargil. My advice:
Register the domains, add the original nameservers, let them sit for a month or two - use 301 redirect at registrar level without bothering with creating pages and shit. If in 2 weeks after the redirect you did not see a jump for the keywords - remove the redirect and forget about this domain. But do not use the 2 domains at the same time - wait at least a month between the redirects.

If didnt work - you will lose under $10. If you spend money for a dozen articles, hosting and all and effect is minimal .. better just to buy a decent link for this kind of money.

301ing works.

If the domains are not relevant to your niche then just setup a subdomain related to your niche. For example if your niche is gardening:

Randomdomain.com 301 redirect to gardening.randomdomain.com, which you then 301 redirect to your website.

Even though overall RD is low, quality of the links is important. The couple of very good niche-related links would probably make them worth adding to a PBN.

We have the budget to spend on domains. Just can't seem to find them. I haven't exactly looked aftermarket though, mostly just expired via scrapebox.

I know we are getting off topic with the thread but in your opinion whats the best place to buy PBN domains that are already registered?
