301 Redirects From Slapped Domains

Okay so we all know that 301 redirects pass most of the juice so if you have domain1.com with high authority/PR and redirect it to domain2.com, domain2.com will be treated the same as the domain1.com.

Now what if domain1.com was for some reason slapped, blacklisted, penalized whatever....

If you buy a new domain and 301 from domain1 to domain2 what is the consensus regarding exactly what is passed down.

Is domain1's penalty passed down to domain2 therefore completely tainting domain2 of any rank-ability or are only the positive aspects of the 301 transferred to the new domain?

Hi mate, one word of advice - make sure that domain 2 has some authority.

subscribed, havn't seen any concrete answers for this. btw ben you could try it, with a brand new domain and see if the new domain atleast ranks for some keywords.

I don't think domain1's penalty would be passed on to domain2.

I wonder what happened if you 301 redirect a slapped site (not de-indexed) domain1.com to a sub-directory on domain2.com -> domain2.com/domain1

I haver heard of a delayed penalty. Where the penalty doesn't show up on the new domain until 60 days after the re-direct. WOuld like to see someone try a mythbusters on this. Well actually I am right now but I would like to no if anyone else has already run such an experiment.

I would be interested in finding out too.

I have redirected a sandboxed site in the past and saw no negative effects but never tried with eg - 50 penalized site.

this would be an easy way to knock your competitors out of their rankings if this works
