Hi ppl
This is a question regarding a 301 redirect in our current website. Lets say that we have a ecommerce website called as "xyzdotcom" and the home page is optimized for a particular city say eg: london. This xyzdotcom is the primary landing page for a lot of keywords
We are now currently planning to go pan-country with our "xyzdotcom" website. How do we retain the old "city" based juice and also have new optimisation for the pan country pursuit ? our direct traffic is very limited. One strategy which struck us is as follows
1) create a city based page called xyzdotcom/london and do a 301 redirect from xyzdotcom
2) have a home page called as xyzdotcom/home which is available when somone clicks on the HOME icon in any of the other pages.
We are expecting that when google does a 301 redirect from xyzdotcom to xyzdotcom/london for over a month..then it will start showing xyzdotcom/london in the SERPS google results page instead of the old xyzdotcom...after this happens..we can remove the redirect..and then change xyzdotcom/home
Hope I am not confusing...Your feedback or advice will be greatly appreciated.
