301 Redirect Question

So here is the deal I know this question has been asked before so try not to crucify me. I like to feel special and hang out with my brothers and ask them dumb questions.

I have a ecommerce site I recently acquired. Sales come 90% from direct traffic and the mailing list, the rest come from brand name google searches.

Current domain is a productname.com PMD that ranks 15 for the product low traffic keyword like 3500 a month
I can get the brandname.com domain in auction right now

Here is the 301 question the brand name domain that I would be moving too used to be a business consulting company it is PR2 and has 4.7k links 50% brand anchor (exact same brand name) and domain url etc. other half has a lot of links like bussiness, analytics, reporting etc.

My existing business is PR3 health niche with 250 only links all organically driven with mostly generic and brand name anchors but also a bit of product name anchors.

So if I where to 301 my existing pmd domain to the former consulting business with a brand name would it look sketchy or would I be ok? I basically just don't want the google hammer on one of my new businesses I have really income and I am hoping to eventually build into a major brand in my niche.

I never do 301s and I am not sure what the consequences would be of 301ing a small health site to a medium/large business site especially with the fact that they share the same brand name.

Would you be pointing your new domain to the same hosting? For example just switching the domains and nothing else?
Are the links gradual on the new domain (Is The velocity constant?)

I would say there is a small risk of google been a bit upset. But if worst came to worst and a month down the line after the transfer you could just disavow the links from the new domain which would put you where you are now.

In my opinion if you are willing to lose the 10% of that traffic for 2 months maximum then go ahead.

If worst does come to worst then simply disavow them links from the new domain.

If you really wanted, you could just throw a message saying Site has moved/new owners/something.

otherwise you'd be fine
