301 redirect from an approximately similar niche

Hello,

I am experimenting with 301 redirect for SEO purposes. Can you tell me what do you think of that type of 301 redirect? I have a site about baseball bats that I sell. But I also have a domain about baseball news. So it is a more general website about baseball. Do you think I can 301 redirect site to the baseball bat store site? Or should I only redirect with a domain of a website that was about baseball bats specifically?

Redirecting a general baseball site to your bat store can work, but due to the relevance factor, it's less effective than redirecting from a site specifically about baseball bats. For better results, it's best to focus on redirects from sites that are closely related to baseball bats.

Seems like a reasonable idea. The only way to know for sure is to try it and see if it provides a benefit.

If you redirect the news site to the product site, it will help you. But if you redirect it to the news/blog page of the product site it would be more effective and you can add the internal links from the article pages to the product pages. It may help you.

Sorry but It wont work. Basically the issue is that the anchor text on the source page (i.e the keywords it ranked for) is different from the keywords you want the target page to rank for. As Tiberius mentioned it far better to create a blog on your site which talks about the best baseball caps or what makes a good baseball cap and redirect that old page to that and then link from there. The way to think About it is this. If you create a baseball bat site on that page, will it rank as is? (i.e without you doing anything?) The answer is no as there is a mismatch between the link profile and the new page.

Another option is to create a page on the source site about baseball bats, redirect some of the other non used pages on that domain to that page and link from there.
