301 redirect, domain indexed?

Hello, i am planning to do some 301 redirects . What i want to ask is if the domain that i want to 301 redirect to my money site needs to be indexed? I made some digging myself and i noticed that are many sites doing 301 redirects for domains that are not indexed. Also are the 301 url shortners still working for powering money sites. I am eager to hear your answers.

the domain doesnt need to be indexed unless you want it to appear on search engines aka google

You can do a 301 redirect even if the domain you're redirecting from isn't indexed, but I would suggest you to use well-known 301 URL shorteners for your money site to avoid SEO problems, as it will be safe

It's okay to redirect to a domain that's in the index

Unless the domain doesn't have a penalty, you can redirect it to your second domain.
