Hey anyone have experience with this? I have 2 sites at the top of page 2, I 301'd site 2 to site 1 about 2 weeks ago. Google saw the redirect - I know this by searching site2.com and it points to site 1.

Anyway should I turn off the redirect since it has no effect on site 1 or do I have to wait for all the backlinks from site 2 to get crawled before I start seeing some gains?

Depends on what you used to do the 301 with. If it was a shit domain it will have no effect. If it was a good domain then yes it will have value. ;)

It was another client site that I tried to rank and ended up at the top of page 2 so my thoughts were it must be a decent domain.

Like arpitagarwal82 said, give it some more time. Also, ensure that you did do a 301 redirect and not a 302 redirect as a 302 redirect doesn't transfer over any link equity.

Redirects are highly effective, i've done around 5k of them (mostly for my clients) so I know.

The only thing is the domain being redirect should be thoroughly investigated. crappy expired domains, with fake prs and chinese links dont work.

My website ranked between 2nd to 11nt position, but now I want to change url of pages.
I want to insert keywords in URL

is this harmful for ranking? what will be the impact on ranking if I change the url and do 301 redirect?

If you change the url you must 301 the old url to the new url with the keyword in it.

i also think you have wait sometime ..i have also tried ..301 redirection but fails .. is there any black hat guide or post to know about 301 redirect ..is server matter in 301 redirect i have to do same server redirection or multiple server redirection .. ?

Have an old ex-news site domain (1k$~) 301 to money site, after 6months almost 0 effect. I think google looks at other things like topic history etc in order to determine if the redirect is legit or not.
