technically using htaccess with faster than php. the site redirects without even starting the php engine. however in real life we're talking about a few milliseconds or less different so this is just mental masturbation. oh well.

I thinks it is a good Idea. To avoid Content duplication you can add canonical link element.. It wont show any content duplication..
