I was ranking fine on the 1st page of google for a long time but wanted to experiment with conversion rate.

I changed from the inove theme to the Thesis theme.

The next day my website disappeared from the SERPS and I found I now have a -30 penalty applied.

Very weird considering all I did was change themes.

Anyone experience anything like this before?

Yeah upon switching to thesis I dropped for a couple weeks, kept link building came back stronger. I don't think there is any need to worry, just make sure perma link structure is the same, so you don't lose backlinks.

happened with me as well.. from Platform to CTR Theme... the traffic is increasing slowly, i wish it bounces back...

A temporary drop is normal. On a side note, if you are using a cracked/pirated theme, make sure there are no links to taboo sites hidden within it.

this tool is s**t. try to check for example g00gle .co . uk you will see "This domain has a severe penalty"

Same thing happened to me after I switched themes. The site disappeared from SERPs, then came back about 10 days later.
