I just bought a site that produces around $1200/month (90% adsense) from a guy that manually submitted links after each post, on a well optimized page. The whole thing only took him around 2 months to do (really surprised me). He sent me his formula with the site, it's amazing how keeping things simple makes all the difference sometimes.
Once you find a formula, just keep at it.

Ey dude, if the adsense doesn't work out for you, you may be better off with selling targeted e-books or some products. You now know how to rank your site and you could give targeted micro niche a try with selling e-books. For a nice adsense income you need a lot of visitors and mostly those much searched keywords are hard to rank.

haha, sorry for not keeping up to date -- been busy graduating with school and such.
Anyway, the campaign was successful in terms of SEO but not too successful in profitability.
Nonetheless, I will start another project and document it soon enough.
hopefully this helped some of you, because it was a learning experience for me!
