It is time for a simple guide on a couple interesting or underused links you can snag yourself to boost your ranking. The best part? These are low cost and low effort.

Some links require a lot of effort to get here. But have paid me off plenty of dividends.

Guest - O - What?

Infographics were the rage since 2016. You made an infographic and pitch it to bloggers. But by time it was common knowledge, bloggers became sick of 'infographic guest post' submissions.

Most of those 'I have a cool infographic your audience will love' emails are auto deleted. Some people may get results, but I dont.

So I tried out some new media methods. I belive I also read about this on Ahrefs recently - Maps.

What you do is create a resource for your niche, that isnt an infographic. You need to share data in a new way.

The entire premise is to make a map which reflects data points. These maps are commonly used in political analysis on big news sites.

You can make a free map here:

https://mapchart.net/usa.html

I only use free map programs. What data do I reflect? Normally something along the lines of:

1. States with Highest Pet Ownership

States with average pet to house hold ratios of less than one, one to one, more than one. Each receives a unique color.

2. States with legal marijuana.

Easy as they come. All states with legal marijuana is one color. On the ballot another color. Medical only has again, another color.

3. Car ownership rates.

You can spin this many ways. A basic ratio of people to number of cars on the road. For example, under a car per person is default gray. One to one is yellow. Two to one is organge, etc.

This can be spun with gender and age.

How to Pitch these?

Unlike an infographic where you say it will be useful, you reach out to websites already mentioning the data and offer them the free resource. You normally land a link from an existing strong page.

The biggest tip is to find new visual ways to promote information. On my money sites I include charts and graphs. As simple as an excelt sheet copy to illustrate information in a concise manor.

Review Begging

I have seen the offer a review for a link. But I have not seen what works better for me. That is, I offer a product I am an affiliate for to bloggers for free.

For example, I have an amazon review site about Chlorine Pool Tablets. As a small affiliate site, I struggle to get links.

So I contact website owners in the niche and offer them the product if they do their own review and link to my massive prodict review. The product review page I want the link to (my page) is informational with mention of a product or two I say I use.

Then, you contact the other blogger and pitch this as: "I love this product, do you want to try it out?:

I started doing this when struggling to gef links for thin affiliate sites. For about ten bucks for a lower end product you get a nice link.

This is exactly what companies do with new products. They offer products for free in exchange for a brand mention. All we are doing is inserting ourselves as a middle man to get a link.

I mainly use this for keywords I target which are 'for sale' or high buyer intent.

This works the best in niches where you have a lot of small bloggers. The kind that do not make money off their websites. For a non profit turning website, a free product is almost a guaranteed backlink.

National Public Backlinks

I listen to NPR (national public radio in the US) a lot when driving. In fact it is how I find many of my backlink prospects.

Guests normally have a blog. Sponsors have a website. You can find a lot of link leads.

But a segment discussed using multimedia for education. Namely, TED Talks from the TED radio hour.

First, you go to:

https://ed.ted.com

Then, you create a lesson. In the lesson you upload a youtube video. It does not need to be your own video.

You proceed to fill in details. You add an introduction, questions, etc. In the conclusion section you can easily put a link (Do Follow and keyword rich).

Total link creation is about 15 minutes. Last time I used it (last week) it was still auto approved.

Just make sure you set the lesson to public viewing and response so it is indexed.

NPR gives a lot of backlink opportunities from interviewees and sponsored websites. This is also a great way to snag Guest Posts.

For a Guest Post I tend to reach out to people mentioned in the Moth Radio hour whom share personal stories.

I look them up, and if they have a website I do normal outreach. But I say I heard their story on NPR. I state how I can relate. This is no longer a cold pitch.

Why do I use NPR? I tend to find NPR traffic (or traffic from a mentioned or featured organizations) converts.

That's all folks.

You can find links everywhere if you look hard enough. That is what link building should be. Expressing relationships.

If you do what everyone else does, you won't get results. You need to think outside the box for success.

Those are some briliant ideas, especially 1 & 3.
Thanks!

Nice one, will definitely try these out asap.

Gem!

I do #2.

But oh man #1 and #3 can be used extensively to get links.

Thanks for this :D

Can't wait to read all your guides. I don't know how I missed shares by you here :P

Make a pillar post if you can, else I will have to :D

Thanks again.

I think maps can be used to interlink as well?

For service pages.

Eg:

We operate in:

Map with interlinkings...

A non spammy way to make a pillar service page.

Great post, and really interesting approaches!
@lightningblitz I’ve tried the Ed.ted.com, my links are showing on the editor but once I publish they disappear, any idea why? Or am I missing something?
