I've been thinking about #2 for a few weeks.

Me and a friend tried getting once office cleaning job, and were turned down based on our ages. His mum used to do the job, so she suggested us and still no.


Not sure how to convince people to let a ~17 year old have access to their office equipment.

Yup agree with you, if it was that easy everyone must be doing it. Good offline ideas but not too realistic.

As i said, it was written partially as a joke. I just wanted people to see things from a different perspective.

I mean, everyone heres so obsessed with making money online they forget how easy it is when you need some quick cash and the options available.

I knew people would slate these ideas as they're not "online", but that isn't the point of the post.

These ideas could easily be applied to online business, and each person will take away ideas in different ways, that's what i hoped.

Some people may have called the webmasters of a few sites, negotiated a deal on advertising to promote some CPA offers via CPM banners, some might have simply started contacting suppliers trying to get some better prices. Hell, someone might have even started arbitraging offline commercial cleaning business contracts for serious money.

On the surface, it's all trivial, but deep down, that's where the juicy stuff is.

I know it sounded like a shitty ebook, and i wouldn't be suprised if some cheap bastard tried to sell it on DP, but take it with a pinch of salt, yeah?

But, with almost 1,000 views, i assume the title got people attention.
 
Running a legit business offline is ridiculously hard to set up. You have to think about:

-Employee payroll
-Employee tax deductions
-Employee insurance
-Business taxes
-GST (for services)
-Business insurance
-Personal income tax
-Other expenses including materials an equipment
... and then you're fucked if an employee gets hurt and they decide to sue you.
... and then you're fucked even more if you or your employee breaks something which is owned by the company who hired yours.

I have had some experience in residential renovations and unless you're going to expand your business quickly, it's sometimes cheaper just not to work. O.O
 
btw, I'm looking for an individual in the GTA (Toronto, Ontario) area who wants to start up an offline business. I'm graduating in April from Ryerson University with a Retail Management degree + Marketing minor.

I have no prob with people encouraging other to hustle but just like most of the other "methods" people promote, the projected returns on these are far fetched and the methods are theory and not proven. This can lead to a lot of discouragement because the people say "wow, he made $100/hr shining shoes? I made nothing because there weren't many people wearing shoes that can be polished". That and it doesn't do anything for your credibility...maybe not a big concern for you though.

Online or offline isn't the issue. It's the fact that these are unrealistic and out in left field. And about your 1,000 views....you can write a great subject line and increase your open rate but it doesn't help you any with conversions when they see the offer is crap.

#2 is doable, but you need references. I started an office cleaning company when I was 18 but I started part time in high school with businesses owned by family friends. By the time I started cold calling I had solid references. Some offices will let you clean late afternoon when they are still present, which solves the theft problem. You still need liability insurance.
 
I don't believe the returns are unrealistic. I know people who have pulled $140+/hr busking on guitar. Most people would think that was impossible, but it happens. I don't know many people who earn that on a salary.

Guess i'd just rather someone waste $20 trying this than buying some stupid book on DP.

And i know they're theory, but in all fairness, it's not exactly hard to go out and clean cars/shoes/windows etc. Someone who can't do that shouldn't really be in this game should they?

For those complaining about this thread, go stick some money in PPC/PPV & promote some CB/CPA. Use keyword elite, quantcast & spyfu to help you out and you'll probably hit $250/day after some tweaking. I could have just wrote a thread on that and padded it out, but the idea was to promote creative thinking and just give some people inspiration. I guess my meaning wasn't as clear as i thought it was.
 
Cleaning, painting, landscaping, grass cutting, window washing, etc. etc. There are ways to make a buck or two offline if your willing to hustle (flyers on windshields, classifieds, putting business cards everywhere) although you might not get rich you can make a living. Never seen anyone shining shoes I though that went out in the 50's LOL.

fyi if you are good, cleaning rentals pays about $200 a day. Once people start referring you to their friends you can charge a lot more. I wouldn't even call it hard work with the industrial strength chemicals we have these days.
 
there are wayyy easier ways to make money but if you need capital It doesn't hurt to do the above :)
 
we're all online trying to make money, so we don't have to do stuff like that in the realworld lol
