248 Unique Visits from Google in a few hours?

2 weeks ago, I created a new website. So far I have published 3 500-word articles. I haven't done any SEO so far. Just added the site to Google Webmaster Tools.

As I haven't promoted the site yet, there's no traffic. But this wednesday, I got 248 Unique Visits in a few hours.
Most of the visitors:
Mountain View,
California,
United States
Google (74.125.181.21)

WTF does that mean? It's a bug, isn't it?

Could you be targeting a local mountain view keyword and don't know it? From the little info you provided, I would be surprised if anyone could narrow down the reason for this happening.
 
I think that's only Google bot crawlers.
I wonder how did you get the statistics?
 
I think you set target in web master-tool like United States, are you added your site Google Analytic?
 
My site is in Google Webmaster Tools but not in Analytics. These stats were taken from statcounter.com

I am pretty sure that these Hits came from the Google Crawler, but why would it visit my sites hundreds of times in a few hours? It's not that I own a bookmarking site or so, I have only 3 articles online ;)
 
Google was expecting a few more Fresh content on your site may be.. It happens. Now focus on SEO and get some real visitors.
