Powerful? It has not been powerful since like 2008. Then it became kinda decent, now it's redundant. It's okay to spread out your anchors and diversify your links a bit, but all in all, I consider it to be not worth the bother. Not for SEO at least. For driving traffic... that's a different matter, but that requires completely different approach.

Yes I do.. They are still effective in their own ways when it is done on the right blogs.

Yes, it is effective. you have to commenting related to article and give reply as well. It is not just a comment, you are sharing your views about that article or blog. So you have to be careful while giving answer. Not just commenting for getting backlinks.

Im no SEO Guru (so correct me if Im wrong) but, its not powerful enough based on my stats, least to say, not relevant at all.
But, when done right, with the right blogs according to your niche, its powerful to bring in some traffic.

Yes, buddy blog commenting is very useful, I think you should only post GENUINE, meaningful posts if you are thinking to get some traffic to your site.
