Anyone seen it on YouTube by Josh Bachynski . I can't post the link yet because I'm still relatively new to BHW. He claims backlinks are dead in 2016, google ignores them because apparently it is not an accurate measure for determining the quality of a site, what are your thoughts? If it's true there's my linkbuilding biz op down the drain that I was looking at doing. I can't sell something I don't really believe in or doesn't really provide value

This line gets peddled every year and every year it's proved to be rubbish. Links are massively important to SEO and that isn't going to change any time soon.
Google are keen for people to believe that they are worthless so that people don't go out actively trying to generate links.

If you're not aware of this then you need to do a whole lot more research before starting a link building business that provides any value.

In my eyes links are still the number one ranking factor. These is a really interesting thread around here about how someone got to number one position for payday loans by hacking 1000s of word press websites and injecting links in, very recently as well.

Backlinks are dead? Would be good news so I can finally outrank Wikipedia by just doing some onpage SEO.
You sure this wasn't an april fool hoax mate?

I don't know that guy but if he really said that he must be very retarded. Another self-proclaimed SEO guru seeking for attention I guess.

Backlinks are still alive and useful to ranking. I have read many things and magazines, non of them explain about backlinks dead on 2016. Quality links are always good

Backlinks will never ever die and could not die just because Google couldn't really have a better indicator. The only thing that will happen is that Google will get better and better at catching fake ones and marketers are always going to find a way to avoid being caught. It's a constant cat and mouse game, but the cat will never ever catch the mouse.

Love it. Very useful information for those of us hoping to have no idea how to rank in the coming days of the internet. Everyone knows the value of links cannot be completely eliminated from any effective ranking algorithm. They remain one of the single most helpful elements of SEO, and will likely for many years to come.

Ha ha, backlinks are dead. Good one.

Why is is then my clients tell me that links from Web 2.0's are sending their otherwise unchanged sites up the SERPs?

the backlink is like the backbone for the site to increase traffic as wel as page rank ...
just look that video updated date if that video updated 31st nit aftr 12o clock means you are first fool ha ha ha

Rich and relevant content coupled with links will always be the backbone of SEO.

I'd expect UX to continue to also be a major factor in 2016.

Didn't google reveal the top three important factors? i think backlinks were like 1 or 2 on the list. Not 100% sure but i think i read something like that

I watched a lot of his video. He is saying that links only 20% of a factor and that rankebrain will be changing the game..
I watched his video and he is selling his expert services. So What ever he is saying dont take it all to heart right away.

is sent this thread to josh for his comment. this was his response:

Hey eldran

I never said links don't count anymore at all

I said d0 f0ll0w links IMO are a greatly reduced signal , being replaced over time by user actions tracked by rankbrain - i think Rand and Limbocher have proven that fairly conclusively

and they [google] are tracking more than just d0 f0ll0ws - i am ranking sites (and i have colleagues rankings sites) using nofollows and straight text mentions (and offsite reviews and ratings, which are much safer to get - which you saw in my 2015 video

so, can you rank with links? yeah, of course! IF you also have quality (because then rankbrain will flush you down the toilet anyways)

are d0 f0ll0ws the only or best or most important signal?

No. the data says no.

at least not in the sites i am seeing, or the leaks i am getting from googlers (yes i still know and talk to them)

but i do mostly white hat shit

and yeah, i so SEO for a living, so yeah i am going to push my services

but consider that means i need to have to be RIGHT (most of the time) in my SEO theories, or my clients would leave, and my fans would not rank

my clients and fans do rank - time and again they come back and thank me for my free advice and cite me as the reason why they are ranking

i have to make sure my SEO theories are mostly accurate or i don't sleep at night because i have no clients anymore and or a guilty conscience bc i advised them wrong (you know about my ethics background - i am one of those assholes with a conscience)

also, notice that it is often people who sell d0 f0ll0ws who say they are still the biggest factor... or people who just don't like change

so you can put that on the forum if you like - my only concern is that i know young people are on BHW often and are trying to make money and i feel bad they are still getting ye olde black hat advice from 2008 from people who just want to sell them links, and or are just haters and hate anything i say or any new algo to exploit

---

so there is his response

{editted by me bc BHW ws erplacing some of his words "d0 f0ll0w"}

I wouldn't be so sure about it, try reading Asif's thread and make your own conclusion
