You comment is absurd, page rank currently has high value in certain situations. I agree that it does not denote the quality of a site though.
As long as people THINK it matters it matters. Folks aren't going to "wise up", unless Google stops using the metric.
Right now it does matter and has value when you are linking, when you are selling advertising, and when selling the actual site. As such, higher is better.
If it is so tiresome, why bother reading the thread?
