I left my job at a Fortune 500 about a year ago to continue developing my skills in other areas as well as travel. I've since built a couple apps for small businesses and created explainer videos, which I consider my two biggest in demand assets.

Now I just need clients and I plan on finding enough to create a steady income of $1000 a month.

You have a website? What have you done so far?

I have a website for each. I also have a small portfolio of videos and apps to show.

Today I contacted local businesses who I believe could benefit from having a mobile app and have gotten two requests for demos. I'll be building them this weekend and meeting with the owners to show the demo and hopefully close the deal.

I spent yesterday considering my target audience for video production and decided that think tanks are a perfect potential customer. Think tanks spend time researching complex issues and need a way to communicate those findings to their audiences and what better way than a 30-60 second explainer video. I figured I'd start with think tanks I support so I wrote a list to contact.

My research began with finding the social media or marketing manager at each and reaching out to them. I had my best luck so far on Twitter with some good responses. I sent each an individually crafted message so they felt like I was personally reaching out to them and I also want to build a relationship with them so I took the time to make it thorough.

So far I've gotten two positive responses both asking for an example video which I provided. Things are looking good already.

Great job already getting 4 leads! How much are you charging for your services?

I charge between 300-500 for a 30-90 second explainer video. And I charge between 750-$2000 for a mobile app for a small business.
