    Good Post!

It is very true that what you do in your 20's defines the rest of you life. As I am 20 I can relate, however I think the title of the article you linked to (which I have seen something similar to this article here in the past) is very stereotypical.

Not all of us 20 year olds are fools you know :p

    I know lol.

That was the Author of the article, and in no way is 100% representative of anyone whatever age they are
    whether 20's, 30's etc...
however, it does highlight a few decent signposts for those who are prepared to understand,
and make this world (and themselves) better.

I also agree with you, in fact, there are more rising stars in their 20's than any other age decade,
it is the responsibilty of elders to guide and nurture those stars into becoming world class leaders.

This is great....I'm 26 and for the last six years, (since I've always read a lot and was pretty mature), I always told myself, "This is when you become who you will always be.." and I've tried to take as much guidance and advice as possible, but it's natural to trip over yourself every now and then, which I did, and recovered gracefully. I've learned that it's important to learn how to look at the big picture. It's hard to give advice to younger family members, because young people never really like to hear, "When I was your age...." but the truth is, you can't tell anyone how to act or what to do, because if he/she doesn't experience it for his/herself, they'll never genuinely understand the reason why.....so I guess what I'm trying to say is it's great to be aware of advice...but not kick yourself if you mess up anyway.

If I could go back (even though I have over three years left in my 20s!), is to realize that it's okay to be different, that those who are different are the one's who become the most successful, providing they embrace what they are....and to never be embarrassed of your interests and ambitions. I remember at like 11 years old I was able to build websites, sell things online, and had many adult mentors who I spoke to more than kids my age. I was so embarrassed of this when it came to telling people in school. If I learned at an earlier age, (that it's a trivial reason to feel embarrassed), I would've achieved more, and earlier.... now I'm not really embarassed by much though, as you get older your confidence grows, and although life gets harder, it also gets better.

The ones that I really learned the last six years, that most 20 year olds probably DON'T know...

    A New Job a Year Isn't a Good Thing

So, so true. You want to show that you're dedicated, in it for the long run. That you're reliable, and decisive.

You're Talented, But Talent is Overrated

Talented will allow you to do a job, it won't do the job for you. And other people have the same talent as you in something, if they work harder, you're not as valuable (to a company or client)

    "Speak Up, Not Out"

    - Such a big difference I see, even with adults of all ages, of speaking out, and going against someone in a defensive matter....as opposed to speaking up, and trying to open someones mind, showing them a different perspective.

Just some thoughts...also I do think Social Media can be a career, lol...but strategically planned.

The problem is that he is basing it on very old data and not counting on recent tech developments. For example in 1900 men were expected to live to the age of 46, which means 23 was middle age. Now its only 78 in the United states, but it should hit 120-130 very soon because of gene therapy, protein folding, much better nutritional information, 3D printing of organs etc.

This wasn't written the 1900s though. I'm pretty sure the same principles will apply whether we have 3D organs or not.

But its the same mentalty that the 20's is a point in your life that determines the rest of your life. Even being 40 is still young enough to turn your life around.

I suppose the majority of people this is relevant to are in their 20s. Sure, you can turn your life around at 40, but most people start thinking of those things around 20, just after school. You won't need to turn your life around if you have clear direction for it in the first place.

30s the new 20, so...i dunno, keep that in mind.

A 20 year old in 1980 was far more mature than a 20 year old today. We all feel it.

Few items on that list don't take a lot of things into account about young adults today, or how the world has changed.

    - Time has no influence on productivity, just go to any university.
    - Phones are insane privacy holes, of course unknown answers make them apprehensive.
    - 20 yr old talent is being taken advantage of via unpaid internship like never before.
    - Social Media isn't a career...Then they tell us to network? And how important that is? Adults are going senile already.
    - A new job a year is a condition the adults in power created through seasonal and increase part-time labor.
    - Don't wait to be told what to do? Then they get yelled at for thinking they know everything? Are they joking?
    - No, the "adults" in charge today should be getting their butts kicked and work harder and make more money and save the economy, because they messed it all up. It is not dependent on 20 yr olds to save the world. Our parents were THE inheritance generation, and have assured that continues that by telling us to go to university, not to act poor, and so on. My God, these people...
    - Map professional gain, when the idea of a career or job security was thrown out the window by the previous generation?
    - SPEND LESS THAN YOU MAKE? YOU FIRST.
    - Trust me, 20yr olds take responsibility for their mistakes, their parents' mistakes, their bosses' mistakes, their relationship's mistakes...

I'm appalled at the parental generation. As we're growing up and seeing how they used to be when they were 20 and 30, we are realizing we are way, way, way more prepared and dedicated and driven than they were, and have a huge uphill battle because of them.

The generation that fought in WWII don't like their kids either, and in fact, due to the bullshit their kids(our parents) did, it's being speculated the ones who fought in WWII will have a better retirement than their kids who got their inheritance. Holy. Fuck.
