$20,000 for content. What would you do?

My partner and I have been working on an affiliate site for a year that targets small business owners. The niche is extremely profitable and dominating with brands but there is not quality content. We are doing well enough that one of our friends has offered us $20,000 for a percent of the revenue. We want to use the money to make quality content to dominate the niche. Maybe not Neil Patel level but as close as we can get with our budget. We want to start with 100 quality (2000+ words) pages targeting the most lucrative keywords. We are good at SEO but are pretty poor at writing. The plan right now is to write the outlines and supply the research then hire writers from odesk and elance to write the articles.

We also are going to make 100 shorts videos. The niche doesn't have any decent videos and we already have the equipment so it won't come out of the budget

Down the road we want to make some awesome interactive data visualizations like http://www.truckerclassifieds .com/truckpocalypse. As well as some long (10,000+ word) articles.

I would invest those money to create my own product n take all the profit

That's the plan. Write content that is good enough that it gets shared. Do a good enough job that we get more referral than search traffic.

$20,000 really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. I don't know your current profit margins but how much percentage is he looking to take? Do you know how to properly calculate your 'worth'? Are you looking to reinvest that full $20k in expansion? Make sure you're not being ethically raped here...

That aside, hiring writers is going to take a lot of that cash as is film production. From my experience (and many others) a poor quality video (both in content and production) is significantly worse than no video. Do you have writers and their prices already? Keywords are important, but the reader is more important. A keyword drives traffic, quality content not only keeps content but drives it as well.

Build a content plan. Being a content writer, I suggest you to prepare an outline of the content you're going to publish on the website. Include some infographics inside the content as well. It'd be great if you prepare a complete blueprint of the articles/images/videos and graphs. There are literally thousands of quality writers craving for such big projects. I agree 100%

I think most people spend way to much time trying to write to please google, where as they should be writing for their users. If you think about it from a everyday stand point , if you were having a conversation with someone face to face, your not going to emphasize every single keyword during the conversation correct? Just use that same thinking when applying it to content online. When your creating content your having a silent conversation with your perspective client. With that said, if you have a budget of $20,000 if you have a decent plan of attack, you should be able to get alot for your money. For example, you stated you want to create 100 2000+ word articles targeting specific keywords. With that said if you search the boards, there are alot of excellent writers here, with a average of $5-7 per 500 words, so your looking at roughly $3,500 for 100 2000+ word articles. But with that said, you should be able to secure a hefty discount if going with one writer, spend $7.00 with a couple of writers here so you can get a idea of the quality, alot of them with provide you with a free review. With all that said you should be able to accomplish the 100 articles and still be sitting with somewhere in the range of $17,000 to use. Thats my 2 cents lol

I'd spend maybe $2k on a few articles, infographics, and maybe a video or two, and $18k on nrelate or similar.

You should consider using craigslist to find writers with experience in your niche. This way you can meet with them face to face to discuss your project and ensure they are qualified. Also 100 quality videos will take some time and skills to produce. I would allot some of the budget to adding to the production value of your videos. In your case I would spend 1/2 on written/video content and the rest on media buys if you are not doing that already.
