Hey guys, I have a client that wants to build 10-20 websites with the same exact content, but simply with different URL's so that he can do local SEO for specific regions. For example, lets say my client was a barber (hair cutter), and he wanted to make 10 different websites with the same content/code/everything with 10 different geographic urls such as

    newyorkbarber.com
    californiabarber.com
    manhattanbarber.com

those kinds of things, and basically do local SEO on each of those websites.

Would Google Penalize for that because there is same content?

I searched for this, and couldn't find anything, sorry if this has already been answered.

Here are two threads to check...
    Code:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/715925-syndication-duplicate-content-penalty-according-neil-patel.html
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/484559-duplicate-content-penalty-new-site.html
Found them with this G search, which often produces better results than BHW's own search...
    Code:
    "duplicate content" penalty site:http://www.blackhatworld.com

It's bad for SEO. The site will be penalized for duplicate contents.

Don't do that OP. Google will penalize your sites.

Honestly it is a lot easier ranking with unique content than it is trying to circumvent that with spun or duplicate content.

The cost of unique content is so low, I don't understand why folks still try to get around it.

Google might see it as duplicate content and penalise you because of attempting to manipulate search engine. On the other hand, you can tell google which is your prefer domain.

Most websites have duplicate content ;) but try to avoid that if possible.

duplicate content in a website is a bad for SEO since they waste their resources on pages that do not usually have a significant value for the users and Google can also penalise your site for this.

Another set of links to check...since you are talking about the same business across multiple locations, this article (and similar) might provide some insight. It seems to matter how you set it up:
    Code:
    http://www.localvisibilitysystem.com/2015/01/02/12-kinds-of-duplicate-content-in-local-seo-which-ones-are-trouble/
    https://moz.com/ugc/get-your-multilocation-business-ranking-in-multiple-cities-with-one-domain-21815
    http://www.location3.com/blog/duplicate-content-on-local-pages/
The first seems to address this question - item #6.

What about redirecting from those additional URLs to the main business site - avoiding the duplicate content. You might be able to code location specifics to be dynamic, based on entry point.

Websites with duplicate contents are most likely to be penalised. Try using different contents for the websites. If you are looking for targetting the websites for different regions you can prepared content too focused on that instead of using same.
