2 kw competitive sites on same host problem

I have two sites that are kw competitive that I run on the same host.

I have gotten great progress on one site (where I don't control my income)
and bad results on the nicer looking site where I could sell advertising and make alot more.

Are there any big downsides or things I should be aware of if I move this 2nd site to another host? (Not sure if this is directly killing results, but I assume it is.)

The best way is to be up to date in your field is to be informed what your competitors are doing???
