Hey BHW,
Upon my entrepreneurial journey, I encountered 2 great & dirt cheap billing solutions.
A. FetchFlow ($1/MONTH, YES PER MONTH.).
Here's a coupon (FREE 3 Months, No credit card required! http://www.fetchflow.com/coupon.aspx)
Con: You can't remove their branding from the invoice. But it's not that bad. These guys are a small biz, so I really don't mind plus it makes me feel good to support them.
And
B. InvoiceBubble. It can be FREE or you can pay 5 monthly (it removes their brand on the invoice, who cares?)
Both of them let you take PayPal as payment. My suggestion is to add a fixed note (you can do so in your account) asking clients to mail you a check.
The only downside (so far) that I found in these services is you can't accept a 3rd party credit card service. But that's not a big deal really.
Anyway, hope that helps someone.
