I have looked through the forum using search and have read some threads similar to this but they don't quite cover it.
Basically I have several sites in english mainly aimed at the U.K market. They are all hosted on a hostgator reseller account and are about highly diverse subjects.
The strange thing is with all my cookies cleared etc if I g**gle my keywords on .com I am on page 1 for one of the sites but if I seach again with .co.uk I am on page 10. Another site is on page 2 .com and not in the first 10 .co.uk.
I don't understand such a large difference. Anyone any ideas?

It all depends, what domain are you using because if its a .com then it will not rank as easily on google*co*uk, same with hosting if it is based outside of the UK it will be harder to rank your website for google*co*uk.

If you want to rank in the uk easier get a .co.uk and uk hosting (if you haven't already). But with out a little more info I'm just guessing that is the reason why you are not ranking as well in google*co*uk.

Thanks but I should have said the sites have recently ranked ok on .co.uk it seems a recent thing.
I appreciate getting a co.uk and using a redirect may work. The hosting as I understand it is virtually irrelevant. I am loathed to buy a co.uk when it was all working fine prior to say last month( ie. maybe the odd position different not 6-8 pages).
I was hoping it was more an adjustment to code or meta or description. As a bit of further information 1 site is about holidays in Spain, which would be the same as a big holiday company like "Thomson", they bwouldn't use uk hosting and the site would obviously be all about Spain yet it would still rank well in serps uk.
Thanks for any help and advice!

If they used to rank then I don't know what's going on, I personally find that if your want to rank in google*co*uk a .co.uk and UK hosting does help but then if its only for one website then it is not worth it, you could try getting links of uk hosted websites/blogs (even better if its on a .co.uk) because this is saying to the big G that the website the links are pointing to is found useful by people in the UK so we should rank it better for google*.co*uk. Would be the same if you were trying to rank a French website you would try and get it hosted in France and have French links pointing to it. I have worked with many UK sites before and when I used to work as an SEO for a company we had one client who when they came to use couldn't high in the UK serps, we moved he website to our servers built some UK based links relevant to his niche and he was ranked number one for his keyword.

I'm not saying you think like this but to many people think SEO is just one factor.

Yes you can just rank just using links but if everything on your website is saying I'm for a UK audience then it will be easier to rank in the UK serps (again I'm not saying your like that at all I'm just ranting in general)

    1-page linking
2-number pages linking inside your domain
    3-countries
exmple domain in .fr is less stronger than .com

Maybe I will try and add some backlinks from .co.uk sites then a nd see howit goes!
It just seems a bit strange, particularly as there was little or no difference earlier. Still if I knew answers like that I would be earning £s with Gaggle!
