I always stick up for 1and1 here, but they really annoyed me today - got an email from them about a file sending out large amounts of email on our hosting account.

So, I called them and asked if they could give me some more information on where the issue began - like what site or what file or what email address etc.

Even after pushing them all they could tell me was that it was a file called sendmail.php!

Bearing in mind we have like 200 sites and over 200,000 files in our hosting package, that doesn't really narrow it down.

Thanks 1and1!

Move to hostgator.
They can help you transfer each an every site for free I think if you get a package for each.
Using Hostgator with no issues Whatseover.
Super fast support as well.

LOL I laugh every time I see such threads.

1and1, HostGator, BlueHost and all those other hosts in this category are shit.

Try JaguarPC - if you want someone that will provide, they're the people

Been using them for a very long time now and no problems at all.

I used to spend $700 a month with those guys only to have to call in to be notify their having issues with their network when it should be the other way around. Good prices but support sucks!

Who would you recommend?

To be honest I'm thinking of just spreading sites between 3 to 4 hosts so there is some redundancy in place if one host has an issue.

I don't want everyone to be jumping onto the same host, so I would recommend you visit the WebHostingTalk Forums.

If you can't be asked to do your own research, create a thread within the main forums asking for recommendations. Don't forget to specify your requirements and budget.

weird you posted this, the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. my host asked if i was sending mass emails and i told them i had nothing to do with it, they just removed that file and advised me to change my passwords and the admin access path ( or they would do it for me for free if i can't do it my self).

Yes, that's how 1and1 normally approach it, the phone call actually ended in awkward silence this time because the guy was so unhelpful I didn't even know what to say. So I just told him there was nothing I could do:)

Time for moving to Hostgator?? I have never used their hosting service but they were good as a domain provider.

Turns out I didn't have an account there, but I do now:) what's their premium membership like?

Funny you should say that, looking at their reseller hosting - quite interested in the fact that they can handle billing for clients that we sign up.

If you target european market, I would recommand you a dedicated server at OVH: cheap and powerful.

I tried 1&1 too: as domain providers they are not that bad, but as host ... I always had problems with my clients whos were working with them.

wait??? People still use those fucks, really?

1&1 = scummiest, scamiest, mother fuckers on the face of the planet!

If I was made to choose between getting a colonoscopy or signing up with those fuckers, I would be bent
over getting a camera shoved up my ass before I did business with them.

PS: 1&1 makes Godaddy with all their upsells and BS look like Mother Taresa!

I have been with Hostgator for a long time now and they are one of the best out there. The support is always there and helpful, you can get things sorted out via phone or live chat at any time.

It will be great if they do that. I don't know if anyone else would do it!

They offer free WHCM license or whatever its called automatic client management and billing or something.

Anyway, just signed up for reseller account. Lets see how they compare to 1and1:)

The premium membership is for those who are interested in advertising there. It gives advertisers some extra privileges, nothing you need to worry about.
