Hi ,
My company have 1200 domains registered,
For law purpose , we need to use these domains because if not , someone with the same domain but other extension can claim the anteriority.

What should i recommend to them ?

301 of 1k2 domains to our main site ?
302 ?
invisbile redirect ?
Parked domain ?

We need to do business with them to have the anteriority , so we could no just set a landing page on each one .

I think redirecting these domain can harm our main site seo ?

what do you think ?

thanks

Satellite or pumper sites maybe? It would cost you heaps on developing 1.2k sites. But i reckon churn and burn satellites is the best way to go, rather than bleeding 12k worth of renewing fees yearly for an unused domains.

Olimix,

If the only purpose is to protect the brand from encroachment, just park them. Steve raises a good point. It will cost you considerable amounts of money and time managing all those websites. Why not focus on your main website and just leave the other ones parked in case you need them?

There is no evidence that 301 redirecting them all to your main domain would hurt but in my opinion (and if you are only redirecting as a means to push other sites out of the SERP's) it promotes a bad user experience. You should really only be using the 301 redirects when a page has legitimately moved to another location.

Maybe you can do what this guy did,

thanks for answers,

I think we are not going for the 301,

We are currently looking at sedo for parked domains and waiting for a lawyer to tell us if domains name are protected using this strategy,

i'll tell you his answer.

I would go with a better parking company than sedo.

I'll use them for boosting SEO. Making some backlinking on them, and so.

We will help you manage them for 2k/month.. we can make them sites that are contributory and interesting to your targeted prospects.. shoot me a pm..

Can you give me some company name plz

What is the reason you buy those domains? we are talking about www.app.com www.app.info www.app.co.uk ... and things like that or they are non related to each other?

Thank you.

It's unrelated domains for example :

howtodance.com
howtocreatewebsite.com
howtobuildhouse.com

and our main site is our brand ( ex : howto.com ) it's just a gallery/blog showing all our online business .

( we have our own team of dev's and sysadmin , i'm not looking to buy anything )

shared hostings don't costs arm and leg , is true can be pain in ass to setup them individually , drop some common cms's on them spread the love ... some cheap content can't be extremely expensive at this level ... and turn them into satellite type sites ... backlink them to main company site and you can rock . If the company already afford to buy them even at discounted registered price ... hard to think can't afford to invest on what's need to turn them on something useful ... parking the domains can be good if you get some direct traffic if the brand is still unknown ... hard to think you will get any direct traffic hence parking will not bring any kind of profit . In a month with 2 VA and some $ you can turn the domains in a nice and well done network ...

If I understand you properly, you want to put these domains in use so that they have content on them, so you can prove they were actually in use in case someone else tries to encroach upon the root-word of your main company by registering domains with suffixes/prefixes.

One simple way would be to have them all point to the same directory, all hosted off the same directory, all would be clones of each other. You could write an article or two. Then you would have 1200 websites of the same article or two.

That would solve your problem of actually putting the domains to use. However, if you're trying to put them to use AND get a little extra bang out of them, you could create a blog network. However, the network would be fairly weak unless you actually built links to the domains. (1200 websites that have spun content, without links backing them up, would not do much for boosting your main site or anything else). To go the blog network route, you'd have to get the blogs some PR and backlinks.
