How you promoted your app coz one of my friend failed in it and lost few bucks and game remains with 65+ installs only
 
first, I dont know how people make money in google playstore. Are you paid every time someone downloads your app? So, I wonder how they make money with free apps?
 
If you decide to try JavaScript instead of Java, try Unity3d. You can easily use Blender3d as a modeling/sculpting/animation software and just import it to Unity. Both are free though. And Unity says if you make over $100k in 1 year, you need to buy professional and give them I believe 15% or something. Not bad if you're making that much per year though.

You can make money with Ads or In-App purchase, like lifes in CandyCrush, gems in Clash of Clans,... Most of the rentables apps are free to download.
