Do not share your link-building methods publicly (especially if it's unique to you) :D that's the gist.
+ start building info content on your site.

you can read this blog post to understand why the site got penalized: https://detailed.com/expired-domain-seo/

I've never sold a site before. Can someone tell me what happens if a buyers purchases a site and then in the next algo update it tanks? Will I be held liable, given that I make the sell via a broker (investors club, empire flippers) and disclose everything about my strategies (PBNs, 301s and so on)

You could bash the buyer, But with Google, nothing is guaranteed
Diversify or you'll get wrecked at some point

For me the public sale of this site was the strongest motivation, I was shocked.

How????

How can you sell google positions for x30 of your monthly income?

A site that has no branded traffic, no subscription user base.

I hired a team and we started making sites for future sales, within three years we sold 8 sites among which were 6-figure sums.
In 2019 I sold a site for x39 of my monthly income and that was the record of the year on Empire Flippers.

it was so easy, sites were selling like hotcakes, I started speaking at conferences, and I was thrilled to see that already new people were inspired by my public speaking and were selling sites too.

But in 2020 amazon lowered the commissions, the most costly part was backlinks and it killed our website selling business, on the other hand this + publicity gave birth to our group buying expired domains service to save on links.

And now it's nice to see one of our clients selling their sites on EF for almost $800K

For me, this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Before that, I was having $1000 days on Amazon - and that dreaded news broke in April.

And I was in the home improvement niche too - that saw one of the biggest cuts. From 8% to 3%

Revenue plummeted like none else. Add to that the uncertainty that came along with Google. Beyond that, life happened, as it does to all of us.

This was what had me considering alternate revenue streams. And AI/automation was my saving grace.

I used all my authority site building experience and here we are!

Cheers to you for finding your way out @Dmytros - keep pushing the envelope.

maybe they recovered their investment, but they neither worked on the site at all, like now it still only has 83 indexed pages... maybe if they would have worked on the site more they would have had different result, like how will they rank for "best smartwatch" when most of the gadgets are like 2-3 years old or more?

I had the idea of adding 10-20 different people's sites to my amazon account to have a big income and get a custom rate, but then the google update happened and killed the review sites, and google keeps doing it. So I don't see the point in investing in this now as a serious business.

IncomeStore was trying to build a huge business on affiliate sites - they had a big portfolio of amazon affiliate sites, and a lot of sites got hit by google updates. There were lawsuits, investors accused them of fraud.

This was what had me considering alternate revenue streams. And AI/automation was my saving grace.

Great that you went into automation. Many people I know started to develop sites in France, Germany and other European countries, where there is less competition and it is easier to get traffic.
