I get it...

Google can seem like a terrifying monster sometimes.

Small tweak to their algorithm and moving back to the parent's basement is in order.

That's where the fear of link-building is coming from.

Some people are so terrified that they won't even do the "white-hat" stuff. They don't do it at all!

Backlinking comes down to 2 things:

1. Source
2. Anchor text

Now as long as the source is healthy, the only real thing to worry about is anchor text. And I know people do.

So that's what I want to talk about in this thread...

===========================================================================
4 Types of Anchor Texts to use to reach TOP 3 (safely)
===========================================================================

Naked URL

Naked URL means the base form of URL you would just copy & paste from your address bar.

EXAMPLE:
https://www.blackhatworld.com/

Notice the / at the end?

This is the most common way of sharing information and Google knows it.

Pay attention to yourself next time you share something over Skype or FB chat. Simple copy & paste amiright?

That's why it's possible to easily "abuse" this anchor type and use it extensively.

Solid on-page + raw power injected through the links does wonders sometimes.

It's even better when your URL contains your target keyword.

You can vary your naked URL variants for even greater security by removing http:// or / at the end etc.

RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Anywhere (really)

TITLE

The most under-utilized anchor type since the death of bookmarks.

Similar to naked URL, it's a copy & paste version of your <title> meta tag.

EXAMPLE:
BlackHat Success: Never give up! | BlackHatWorld

Source:
https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/blackhat-success-never-give-up.125/
Code:
<title>BlackHat Success: Never give up! | BlackHatWorld</title>

Once again, the Title usually contains your keyword. But since Google can see it's the Title, you can use it much more than you would just keyword itself.

Now it's not as abuse-able as naked URL but still much more than keyword rich anchor tests directly.

RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Bookmarking sites (index-able ones)
-
Contextual - within the article body as "You might also like" recommendation link or at the end citing the Source.
-
<a> tag Title attribute with mics word as anchor - EXAMPLE:
Code:
<a href="https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/blackhat-success-never-give-up.125/" title="BlackHat Success: Never give up! | BlackHatWorld">click here</a>

BRANDED KEYWORD

Keyword + brand. Also, make sure it makes sense and look like a real reference by adding misc words like in, for, by, from etc and using capitalization.

EXAMPLE:

Keyword:
chicago dentist

Anchor:
ZocDoc is dentist in Chicago

As you can probably tell, this type of anchor text is the "riskiest" but still much safer than keyword rich ones alone.

You can feel it right? : )

Adding misc words to your anchor texts is an extra tip btw ;)

RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Contextual

CORE WORD

This one is a little tricky because sometimes it's hard to define but it works wonders (it might actually be a loophole but it's been around for quite sometime).

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for 1 word keywords.

Core word is something that makes up the keyword. You don't want to rank for the core word (it's nearly impossible anyway) just use it as anchor text.

We would use the core word alone as a separate anchor text.

EXAMPLE 1:
buy youtube views

The core words in this case are buy, YouTube and views.

EXAMPLE 2:
chicago dentist

The core words in this case are chicago and dentist

EXAMPLE 3:
garcinia cambogia extract

The core words in this case are garcinia, cambogia and extract.

RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Contextual

Happy & Safe backlinking :)

Nice share OP, branded keywords do wonder with proper on page

Great Guide, Core keywords do work really well :D

amazing post.

One thing I want to add: the model OP provided for over 20 days is a safe to play model. If you want to rank for a particular keyword, you need to see how the top 5 or 10 websites are doing for your target keyword

to get an idea: just search for a keyword that you are pretty sure that has no affiliation website or any site that is involved in any type of seo activities. for example "florida". if you have access to majestic do a search and see the ratio of your target keyword (i.e. florida) is as compared to over all backlinks to each site

here is majestic anchor view of top 5 sites for keyword florida
  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida : 69%
  2. https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us.html: 15.5%
  3. www.myflorida.com/: 11.3%
  4. www.ufl.edu/ florida sitting at 0.7%, but for "university of florida" it is sitting at 40%
  5. https://wikitravel.org/en/Florida 17%
so if I want to rank for florida I need to have a backlink ratio for that keyword for more 20% (cant really compete with wikipedia!). So what OP provided is a safe model and it is where you should start at. After things get stable out a bit, then do the above model and see what your bank link ratio should be for your target keywords

hope this helps
cheers

Bookmarked, thx comrade (according to your nickname, I think you live in my country). All the best.

Timely post, this is just what I needed to read right now.

Good analysis, but if you're ranking for cretain keywords, there should be certain percentage of anchor text in your desired keyword. The great danger comes in getting the balance right and not getting on the wrong side of over optimization.

Nice, I'd also look at the G suggestions whilst incognito - as Sub Headings and bullet points.

A nice looking page can do wonders, especially with schema. That also links to internal pages. Pictures are best too.

simple still powerful post OP, and great add value by @fb3003, anchor mix, good authority links and competition analysis and boom!

Erm, to really look into this you have to consider your competitors. Now, what's the difference in a natural position of 1-3 A vast amount, that varies by industry sector (those that have the date wlll be able to tell). The way forward is to genuinely answer the query determined by the user. Both bullet points, an explainer video (with script) and Questions and answers.

What do you want? Ideally a sale, but you primarily require a genuine lead first - email, make it optional to have a phone number as no one likes being hassled. A free trial is great too - when is convenient for the user to have a call with your sales team? It's always good to add this into the META D too.

I have seen incredible increases in CTAs via the text alone. Just look at the person above you - and do it better.

Thanks for the guide OP! :D
I shall definitely try it out!

What the hell are you talking about?

What the hell are you talking about?

OK

1. There is so much variation in CTR from 1-3 (organic)
2. This depends via industry sector
3. Those that have a clear function and call to action via title and meta description will work best
4. Even if you aren't in the top 3 - your CTA can help, and hopefully engage the user to possibly rank higher in time due to time on site and + match

OP you missed one branded keyword, G treats for "domain" as a branded URL for "domainl.com"

you've also got the URL variations like Http://www.domain.com Http://www.domain.com/ http://www.domain.com domain.com

One last anchor text idea:

scrape all the content that is used on the top ten sites in your niche: break down any words that show up more often. i.e anchor text percentage for all sites (software out there to do this, but can't remember the name of it to hand) and you have a whole bunch of additional partial/related keywords.

Lastly, you've got conversational keywords: "use domain.com to find the best casino offers" you've got both keyword and URL. can mix this up with brand too: "use domain to find the best casino offers", and you can use it without keyword: "view offers at domain.com"

great advice never the less.

Yes, i agree to a certain extent.

I'm currently going into this more deeply and looks like you don't even have to stick to what top 3 guys are doing 100% and still rise. Kinda over-write what is a norm for the query.

Of course 0% keyword rich ones won't do either.

More testing is in order.

Is it Russia?

Yes exactly. This should make sure you stay on the light side of the Force.. I mean Google.

Yes, but on-page can be modified and improved at any point and you can see effect of it really fast.

I wanted to focus more on off-page here. Once you mess that up it can take months to fix.

This seems very off-topic sorry.

Hey Mikey

That's true. Thanks for adding that.

Is Naked/Brand links have the same power as Exact match?
Naked/Brand links from PBN is a waste of PBN power right?

I am from the school that thinks that anchors and all the tinkering people one percent more, two percent less is highly overrated these days.
