Hi guys,

I have 0 experience in flipping a website, but I do have experience in digital marketing from working with agencies and companies.

So watch me as I learn the ins and outs of building an asset and flipping it. My goal flip is $100k for this journey, which I think is do-able.

So lets get started.

===
Day 0
===

Today / tonight (I can only work in the evenings) is to find a niche that I can build a small little website and grow it to something worth flipping. This journey will most likely take multiple flips to get to my goal, so I'd like to start small (but keep it brandable) until I've built up enough experience to hit my goal.

Todo:
  • Research a niche
  • Find ever green topics for the niche
  • Find keywords for the niche
  • Make sure the domain and socials are not taken
Very simple first day / night, definitely tasks that can be doable.

Will be updating daily so stay tuned. :)

I realized that I can't link to my introduction thread so I'll just copy and paste my experience:

I've been doing digital marketing for a while now but really kept my head down for the last few years. I've dabbled in a lot of things during these those times which include:
  • Web Design & Development
  • Email Marketing
  • SEO
  • Social Media
  • PPC (Adwords and Facebook)
Currently working at a company that owns 6 brands. I'm running all of their Adwords and Facebook campaigns. This is a great way for me to practice things like copywriting, creatives, and landing page designs.

After how many months are you going to sell them and where?

What's your target as net revenue monthly ?

Following this journey. I suggest you stay away from flippa and use a trusted website with brokers etc.

I'll be building the domain for at least 6 months before looking to sell.

Aiming for at least $100 / month on revenue before I go for my first flip. This may change as I get closer to my 6 month date.

Following this journey. I suggest you stay away from flippa and use a trusted website with brokers etc.

Thanks for following! :)

I was actually planning on going to Flippa for my first flip, but hearing this is making me second guess that. Will decide when I get closer to the flipping stage.

Following, will be doing this myself with 1 word domains

Thanks for following!

Hope you succeed on your flip! :)

Interesting!

How much time did you need for building a ready to sell a website? And this is worth?

Looking to at least grow the domain for 6 months before flipping. I might hold the domain longer depending on how it's going.

Personally for me, this is worth it. I find building a domain fun, especially when it makes money haha.

Todo List - Day 0
===

  • Research a niche
  • Find ever green topics for the niche
  • Find keywords for the niche
  • Make sure the domain and socials are not taken
Finished going everything from the previous night. Only thing is that I'm going to find a brand-able expired domain to speed up the process a bit.

===
Todo List - Day 1
===

  • Find a brand-able expired domain
  • Create content sheet
Keeping it really simple today as well because I want to make sure the domain is good.

===
To-Do List - Day 1
===

  • Find a brand-able expired domain
  • Create content sheet
Completed both of these and getting ready to assign the content sheet to a writer to get started on the ever green content. Took me a lot longer to find an expired domain than I thought, but after 4-5~ hours, found one in the niche. :)

This first website will probably be a small flip because of how niche it is. It's still in a big market with tons of money flowing through it on a daily, but i'm starting in something small.

===
To-Do List - Day 2
===
  • Get logo and banners designed
  • Create social profiles and start an IFTTT network
Straight forward day again, will be getting a friend of mine who's an amazing and fast designer to get a logo and banner done. The banner will be for the website and social pages. I really want everything to be in sync.

IFTTT is so Google has more ways to start crawling my website and start ranking and indexing it faster.

Interesting!
How do you define if a domain is brand-able or not?

Something like "BestSiliconPhoneCases.Com" isn't brandable in my opinion. Maybe good for SEO, but very hard to expand to something else in that market like:
  • Phone Chargers
  • Screen Protectors
  • Phone Brands
  • Etc..
I'd go for something like BeaverElectronics because I could pivot to other types of electronics if I wanted.

To-Do List - Day 2

  • Get logo and banners designed
  • Create social profiles and start an IFTTT network
Got all of these assigned out and should be done by Monday. :)

===
To-Do List - Day 3
===
  • Designing the website
  • Figuring out content structure
While I'm waiting for the logos, social profiles, and content to be written I'm going to be setting up the website on WordPress. Will be making sure the foundation is rock solid before doing anything traffic related.

Hi Jack. I am doing something similar myself Started 2 weeks back and got the few main content pieces done. I am getting third article written and then I will publish them and then start working on generating traffic.. If you are interested pm me your Skype so we can share our journey and experiences. Best of luck

Update: Day 54
==

Hi-ya! Sorry for the lack of updates, I got really into setting up everything, and putting it all together that I forgot to update this thread. Right now the website is fully built and has 3 main sections to it:
  • Free section - Monetized by ads
  • eCommerce section - Monetized by sales
  • Membership section - Monetized by subscription
I wanted every part of the website to be monetized so no traffic went to waste. Not every visitor will convert, but every visitor should have do something. I set it up this way because everyone there's a simple funnel going on here:

Free section -> submits email / subscribes to messenger -> upsell to products -> upsell to membership
The free section is monetized by Adsense and Media.net right now. The eCommerce section is my own products and the membership is also my own.

Here are some earnings since my last update:
  • Free section: $151.04 + $36.86
  • eCommerce: $1,231.49 + $509.49
  • Membership: $493.90 reoccurring
There's still a lot to do and I'm just getting started on this website! Right now, the main goal is to optimize the free section first and work on my upsells to the eCommerce side.

Seems like you really thought this site through. Congrats on the progress you've made so far. Keep up the great work. I will be following this thread from now on. :)
