$1000 pc/laptop advice

Depends on what you are doing with it.

If you are just doing basic office work, you can get a sub $500 machine and it will serve you fine. Don't rule out getting a refurbished laptop either. I usually only go with refurbished now.

Sounds like u need to do research on the components you specifically want for whatever purpose.... Usually only high end gaming or video editing require such a powerful PC

I think HP is doing some clearance deals on the HP Envy slim model, get it if it has touch + 4k + Dedicated graphics card. I own a similar 1k+ laptop HP Spectre, but unfortunately, lack the 4k + Dedicated GPU.

Budget should not be the criteria but your nature of work should be the criteria to buy a laptop

Thanks for the input guys. I am leaning towards a laptop but i am not very knowledgable, as i said my budget cap is $1000 dollars and it will mostly be used as a day to day worker with no intensely specific duties (video editing etc.) except for maybe a bit of gaming (battlefield mainly). If there is a best of both worlds model that can handle both that would be great. If you guys could put yourself in my shoes with my budget and suggest a few models with these criteria in mind i would appreciate it, apologies if i am not being clear enough or blurring lines between what i am asking for.

I would definitely recommend a laptop if you do work that does not require a lot of performance because you can carry it around and work anywhere you please.
There are some laptops that give you the best of both worlds, but they cost around 3000$.

One thing I would like to know is that are refurbished laptops good?

And does the battery life or the laptop life in general decreases by a small bit when we connect a 24" inch external monitor?

I have no previous experience with refurbished laptops, but I definitely recommend getting one from the store in case there is something wrong with it.

If you plan on hooking a monitor behind your laptop, you are probably going to have to have the laptop connected to the power outlet anyway.

Oh man budget should be MAX 500$ if your planning to play games then the thing that's making your laptop is the Graphics as for running basic applications such as excel an i5 processor should do you just fine(OVERKILL). Which battlefield are u gonna play there is a website (CAN U RUN IT) where u can see if your laptop can run which games. Basically CPU CORE is not what is expensive its the graphics in your case

Get yourself a ThinkPad. If I'm going to spend 12+ hours on my laptop and it's my primary source way of making money online, I'm going to invest in the best keyboard, build quality, screen, weight and battery life that I can given your price point.

They go on sale regularly for around 900-1.3k

I would recommend you get a MacBook. They are classy, light and have good enough performance.

I typically get refurbished enterprise laptops and workstations for the work I do. If you get a used battery you may experience less lifetime on it. However, the money saved can easily purchase a replacement if it becomes an issue.

I recently got hold of a Dell workstation that brand new would have cost nearly $5,000 to build. I paid ~$1300. Not a bad price for hardware that is 1.5 years old.

look for i5 processor and 8Gb ram....preferably with Windows installed.... once u get these specs, just pick a nice design/color/screen size...

For better gaming performance you may want to go with a laptop that has discrete graphics. Also try for 16GB of RAM and 500GB SSD drive with a screen have 1920 resolution. You want USB 3 as well. Don't forget battery life if you are the mobile type.
