Find sites realted to your niches, check if articles submission or blog option are enabled (or another user content submission module), then submit your articles/content with a backlink to your site, for example:

postcarbon.org/submit-a-story (main page has PR7!) shows some nice files to put links in

Thats a good method but i wonder that most of them will be having moderation system and admins will remove our links.
