100 Letters Mailed... results pending

I'm really curious about the results.
Keep us updated!

12 came back undeliverable / FOE in todays mail. No replies as of yet.

Good Job! Most of the time not taking action is what holds us back. I'm rooting for you!!

Yeah pretty much. Suuuuuper nervous about making the calls + walk-ins but I'm sure it'll up the close rate a good bit to be tenacious.

I've ran SEO sales centers before and it's not pretty, it's good having a letter however your main draw backs will be the letter not going to the correct person.

I'll send you a PM with our latest SEO promotions to give you some more ideas :)

since they are all going to the same city and most likely getting opened around the same time just make sure you can handle the calls (if you put a call to action in the sales letter).

Very cool! Taking action is the first step! How has the response been this week?

I mailed out 100 letters yesterday evening pushing a re-design and 98/100 are in the same city as I am so the response should be pretty quick.

Costs thus far consist of:

1 Roll of 100 stamps ($46.00)
2 package of heavy stock paper ($38.00)
2 Ink cartridges ($29.00)
2 boxes of envelopes ($2.60)

I was going to hand write all of the addresses, but then I realized that my hand writing appears to be that of a drunken, 75% blind parkinson's patient. They ended up printed out instead :o

Response rate from this mailing will be posted when it's available. Price range is set at $1k-$2K for the main offering and will offer other services as an upsell (seo, social media, ORM, etc).

Only way to know if something works or not is to...

TAKE ACTION

I'd like to thank wasted, netmoney1, 7878 and the rest of BHW's action takers for putting these ideas & tactics in my head.

Stay tuned :ranger:

Your action is inspiring!

Did you use your home address as the return address? Or a P.O. box?

Where did you find the addresses you mailed to?

already April 6... I am excited to know how it goes???

Sorry guys got pretty busy shortly after starting this thread no thanks to these letters though.

Ended up with 1 call back and zero bites. The majority of the calls I made ended up not there, busy, not interested, etc. Pretty sure my problem was not targeting businesses with high immediate customer value. Next batch goes out to CPA's, lawyers, etc instead of small mom & pop businesses.

Return address is my own and I collected the addresses from http://www.patch.com a lot of incorrect information though so it had to be re-confirmed against other info sites. Patch.com is going to the back of my personal list as far as a source of information goes if that tells you anything.

With direct mail, it's been proven you can expect a 1-2% response rate. 1 call back could easily pay for your marketing....

To increase your close ratio, you need 5 points of contact.

phone call
email
letter with a gift (depends how crazy you wanna go with it, girls like flowers, guys like guy stuff)
in person
call again

If you're relying on letters alone.... send out 1000 and expect to get 10 responses. I can tell you as a business owner, if I'm not expecting the mail, I shred it without opening it.... then I use it to start a nince wood fire to cook dinner. There's just so much of it....

edit- dude, save money... get your stuff printed professionally. I found a guy who would make 1000 copies for 40 bucks.I haven't used him a few years, but the cost per page on most home printers is insane.

You know, I have been a member of BHW for years, and have ready many posts, just drinking in the knowledge and never felt like I had the "Wisdom" to chime in and then here I find this thread and realize that there is a sub-forum for offline marketing! This is so cool!!

I have recently decided to embark in an online marketing arm to my existing offline marketing business (I have owned and operated a Printing company for years as well as have published magazines). I can tell you this, depending on what you were selling, the content of the letters and how well you wrote them you will most certainly get a response, I have used this exact tactic to get new clients in markets we were trying to penetrate and it works fabulously.

In today's world of Junk mail and Spam people RARELY ever get letters in the mail, especially ones that appear to be tailored just for them and not just a piece of Variable Data mailbox clutter. Please keep me posted as I am very keen to see how your response rate goes, finally I think I found a part of this forum where I have a lot to offer you guys!

I have a pretty good grasp on the "Principles" of SEO and how to do it but I have yet to every truly embark on it, Direct Mail, letter mailings and offline marketing, now that is something I am a master at!!
Based on your success with this campaign I would suggest you also try a crack at an EDDM mailing, I have had remarkable results with it and at $0.14 per piece in postage you can't get much better than that.

Cheers

Perhaps the letter content was an issue? Do you have a sample (edited of course) you could post?

If you are targeting businesses and want good clean data with multiple points of contact try Dunn and Bradstreet, that is what we use for our mailings.
