While I don't know what type of online investing you are talking about the following should get you going.

A simple Google search for "online investing forum" pulls up numerous hits including:

Find a forum or website that is on topic with your course, then go to similarsites.com and find similar websites to the one on topic with your course. You can find other "similar website" websites by typing in "similarsites.com" on similarsites.com. Look at those too. That should get you some websites you can advertise on.

To get people to submit their email address so you can give them more information about your course you'll need a decent landing page that expands upon your ads. Collecting emails via landing pages is a whole conversation in itself. I'd try to find some ads promoting something similar to your course on some of the websites you found above, click and follow the ad, and see what those people are doing. Use that as a starting point and improve on it.

Also, become a forum member on some of these websites and share some good info with the readers. This will help set yourself up as an authority figure on the subject and will get some interaction going between you and the forum's members.

Well you and I are in contact right now so, yes, I do believe people contact from the forums, although I think what you are asking is will people go to your website from a forum. The answer is definitely yes if your content adds value.

I also say this from personal experience, you can get quite a bit of traffic from forums if you aren't rude and don't break the rules of the forum. Signatures are a great place to put a link and go quite nicely with a well thought out post.

Ads are seen by gobs of people and take no special programming like bots do (custom bots are another way of generating traffic but from my perspective they have a short lifespan when geared towards a specific website like instagram or facebook), but others may disagree.

As noted above, forums are an excellent traffic source as long as to not this one or those you value too high sentimentally.

I'm still looking for an ideal way to automate this lead gen process.
