your content needs to have this characteristics- The content should be deep, comprehensive coverage and focused on the topic (keyword) you want to rank for. When you create content with those three characteristics, you might find yourself writing a 4,000-word article. Or it might be 1,000.

Lots of people don't want to spend their time for long articles, so short article is better.

It is not the length of the article but the quality, however with google you can never know. I have seen some crappy articles rank in the top 3 on Google. It all depends on backlinks, competition etc.

You need to focus on the content of the article so that it is interesting and attracts visitors.

According to my experience it will be better 40 articles with 500 words. Then focus only in high traffic keywords.
