10 Link Building Strategies To Avoid In 2018

I have not built links for years with my website. And the result is abosolutely NOTHING. If we avoid all these strategies, there is no way to rank higher in search result for sure. Anyway, great post, nice format!

Summary of post: Nothing but link outreach works

I agree with some of this alot of the old stuff is crap like blog commenting, you may get away with a few like maybe a couple per page for link diversity but if this is your strategy your going to dig yourself a big hole. I still think some of these in very small ammounts are okay for pillow links.

And yes pbning is getting much harder, I recently had a network I was super paranoid about not leaving footprints have 50% of its pbns whiped out and 2 sites penalized. Was it worth it? I think yes, without those pbns i doubt my page would have ever ranked and pulled in the revenue it did, and I made websites on 2 pbns that started to see natural traffic. So do i recommend pbns? Yes and no, yes to paranoid technical people that know how to set them up. no to those new to SEO, hell i have been doing seo for years and I still get caught once in a while in a penalty.

Classical reply, Thanks for the information.

But, I do have a question.

Only Press release ?
No other links along with Press release ?

i would say pr's compliment your content stradegy - it's part of a overall approach

PBN's definately still work but you must be ok with the risks involved in using them.

Great sharing by the original thread owner.

First of all we need to define the term "PBN" . This is highly subjective because PBN can range from a low quality one (whereby it gets spamy and serve all niches, in the case of LINK building providers) or a high quality PBN whereby is done up right, with content pages, contact forms, emails, serves almost identical like a legit website.

In the case of high quality PBN, if done right, it could also be considered as a "Guest Post". Because is LEGIT. I mean think about it, is just like another website own by others.

in most businesses, where sales and traffic matters, unless you are a figure of authority and providing GOOD CONTENT for free with "the intention of just sharing to the world your knowledge" (yeah right, lets not kid ourselves ?) , then backlinks are definitely a go-to as it serves a major driving force of ranking.

Whats most important is, how you are going to build such that it seemed NATURAL in the eyes of human, as well as google algorithm.

So the conclusion is, there is actually no right and wrong. SEO is an on going process, algorithm changes everytime, so what matters is always trying out what works what doesnt, and share around. That way we ourselves can grow as a community and prosper together. Cheers!

So you are saying that Goodles penalty PBNs because they contain low quality contents rather than they were used by one person for the purpone of ranking another website of him ?

thetoothfairy, there are many factors that define a low quality PBN. One of the case is of cause spun content that doesnt make sense, another would be hosting dates and similar IPs. These are walking timebombs and are obvious footprints in the eyes of google

If you follow Google's holy grail, it will take you years before you get that spot 1, that is if there's no changes at all. Matter of fact, Google doesn't really know all the PBNs ever existed. And how would they know that a website is selling their guest post? Do they track Paypal or bank transaction now? Google says what they wanna say, but even until now, a lot of marketers are kicking their ass.

to each their own. I am not leaving those methods. not until when i test and see they are ineffective or hurting my rankings. until then, bhw is the way to go

So we should avoid everything but outreach...

Outreach links also get you a penalty if you overoptimize for exact matches :)

This is why I like Josh Bachynski. He's very honest about how "white hats" buy links. Anytime I look for a niche product I want to sell in Google (Brandname + Review) I see sites using PBNs. If it's a controversial product I might see an authority at #5 bashing it with 2,000+ indexed pages and a lot of direct traffic and social. Nothing that a regular guy can reproduce on any sort of budget. These people are like a religion of sorts. They spread the good word about the white hat gospel. It's nonsense.

with white hat you can waste life and not appear on page one.

with black hat you learn faster even if u dont rank

PBN's are here to stay and not going anywhere, it's just that Google is becoming smarter every day, just as they with spam on their Gmail product. But in spite of that we get some spam from smart marketers. It's beating Google at it's own game.
