I was doing some keyword research when I happened to come across this interesting keyword.
As you can see in the screenshot below it's currently ranking number 1 for a very competitive keyword, with only 22 backlinks from 9 domains.

The first thing that springs to mind is PBN, but why would they risk making it look so obvious? Has anyone got any ideas on how else they could be doing it?

You can hide domains from being crawled.

I took a look at the websites robots.txt file and it doesn't seem to be blocking any of the major crawlers.

So they most likely have a couple hundred PBN or homepage links that have their robots.txt blocking major crawlers and thus explaining why you dont see many links when looking at all major tools including ahrefs and majestic.

Surely looking at the top 10, it is a very competitive niche and the website is doing over 3.6m in traffic, kudos to them for gaming Google! :)

I'm seeing 100+ domains on majestic.

I just checked Majestic and I only see 19? (That trust flow lol)

Doesn't that make them highly suspicious and likely to get caught though? What if the Googlebot removed it's identification and pretended to be a real user?

I agree they must have a big network! Going to keep an eye on it over the next few months and see if they stay number 1 or get removed :P

It does appear to be risky. But I don't think it is going to work out for them for the long run. Please keep us updated.

check the backlinks:
its about youtube, mp3, musics, etc

they're all relevant, or at least most of them are relevant

don't you think so?
