1 large website vs 5-10 smaller ones

Hello BHW members. I am beginning my first journey into the Adsense business, but I have a question. My goal is to make $50 a day (yeah everyone has goals like that every day here) and I was thinking up ideas for sites. I was thinking of having 5-10 sites that would make $5-$10 a day that would give me the amount I needed. But one of the ideas I developed for my niche has a lot of potential. I have a TON of ideas for it and can put at least 350 pages of quality content on it. So I was thinking of just focusing on one major site instead of a bunch of smaller ones. Anyway... what method seems more effective? 1 or 10 websites?

I would advise you build out 2-3 much bigger more authoritative sites so you dont have all of your eggs in one basket and will be able to survive a lot of the recent updates targetting lower quality emd sites.
 
Just out of curiosity, and I know this is total guesstimation and has been asked a thousand times, but how many pages of content is usually needed to keep a steady flow of 100 daily hits?

That's kind of what I was worrying about, in case the site I picked bombed I would have no back up plan. So possibly in between and pick 2-3 sites, gotcha.
 
multiple sites = more hasle
single site = fear of penalty and total annihilation of revenue.

Single site for short runs if your planning on expanding to new sub-sites to back you up in long run.
 
Focus on one site first, learn how the things goes (SEO, content, analytics...). Set some goals for little traffic and when you reach that goal, start with second site.
But also work on the first one as well
 
Thank's for the advice guys. I think I'll start with one site, and if that's successful I will move onto one or two more sites.
 
authority sites are typically better long term. micro sites can be frowned upon in some cases.
 
One big website, make money, make another big website, make money, make another big website, make money, make another big website, make money, develop a heroin addiction, go to rehab, make another big website, make money, make another big website, relapse, die.
 
Economies of scale, use resources wisely.

If it costs you money to promote each site, establish 1 strong one.

If the cost for doing offsite SEO for most of your sites comes down to content creation/hosting/proxies/creative marketing instead of additional overhead, promote various sites.
 
Recently a buddy lost most of his traffic with a google update. Only his main site actually survived. The rest (albeit spamish) pages were deindexed/lost a ton of rank.
 
So his main site withstood because it wasn't being propped up by spam and weak links? My only fear with one site is that one update could wipe me out, but I plan on focusing on white hat SEO.
 
Doesn't matter white hat seo or black hat, if the links look spammy, Google penalizes. Picture it a jail scene, you're the scrawny bitch and Google is the pure 100% 600 lb muscle. It's shower time (Google Updates) and Google smacks the soap out of your hand. Your heart starts beating as you know that if you bend over you're fucked, and if you kneel down your fucked. Google is grinning as you now need to decide. White Hat is kneeling down as Google prepares to fill your throat and Black Hat is bending over as Google prepares to give you 50 stitches and 8 months of rehabilitation. You choose which you want Google to do to you, some people survive by placing the soap on a rope (adding quality to back links) while others just totally die after the updates (STDS and Blood Loss).

1 website=NO!
10 websites=NO!
100 or more websites=Yes!

If you are going to focus on SEO, you need to realize that you will get fucked by Google eventually no matter what you do and this is a fact! If you are not doing SEO than I can see one website being great but you will loose if you have a few websites. Learned the hard way just like many others here.
 
Make as many as you can, you have higher changes that some of them will stick and get traffic.
