It might be possible (depending on how much you consider is a US living since it varies based on the area) but you'll have to put a ton of work in to get to that point.

What exactly do you mean by a ton of work?
That means read a lot of information, invest, fail and try again.
You are not going to make a living just by doing two clicks.

Yes if you are motivated enough. I remember i used to work 20 hours a day when i started and i started seeing money roll in within couple of months. You gotta find something which will bring in the money immediately though. Dont start with SEO as it will take several months before you see any money come in and you might lose motivation. Start with freelance maybe as it will create an immediate cash flow and when you have some money saved up, start long term SEO projects or SAAS website maybe. Also bring your expenses down, i lived on $100 a month when i started out(i live in asia), it helped me save a lot.

Let's say that the average American living is the 3000 dollars a month and because you are asking it let's assume that you wanna do it all from home.
First, you must pass the first big challenge. This is making this first one dollar. After you make that first one dollar, what limit you making 2 dollars, 10 dollars, or even
10 000 dollars. My advice is to do this step ASAP so you don't lose motivation. You have a couple of ways to do that. The most common is to start freelancing on Fiverr, but if you don't have ant kind of skill, don't worry, you are still in the game.
You can start doing google ReCaptcha for money. Usually, you are gonna earn here 3 dollars an hour. Also, you can start doing forum marketing ( this takes more time). So, in forum marketing, you pick up one product and then go to a forum that already hasmembers who are interested in things similar to that product, and then show the product to forum members.
After you earn that first 20, 30 dollars, you have many more options. You could start a blog ( this is my favorite ), you could start one product dropshipping store. You could develop high - income skill that pays you 10 000 dollars or more a month, I mean skills such as copywriting,... In this step, only sky is the limit.
I have the same question. So do you suggest that the best route is to start a website? How do get it to rank and be profitable in just a few months, interested in sharing some of your strategies?

I don't really test this method but my friend is. I was started my journey by doing fiverr jobs.
But, he told me about this method so I share it. He says that you could do this on many websites. One of them is 2captcha.com. Here is one good video to help you understand this method:

On 2captcha you get paid 1$ / 1k recaptchas --> 3k recaptchas to make 3$ --> 1.2 seconds per captcha to make that much (and if you've ever done more than a few captchas you know this won't work)

I have the same goal (first goal of a bigger journey) to get a good living within a year.
The strategy i choose is a bit different, maybe just because i'm broke and i've zero money to invest.
I start studying.
Making courses, practice, develop skills.
Now i'm starting a freelance/one man band business with the skills i developed.
The goal is to make a living from this and raise some budget to use next year to start building other stuff.
