Try using Lindexed or Social ADR. Works well for me.

Just examine the backlinks to the domain and make sure its linked from high authority sources. I wouldn't worry about much else.

Even if the domain is expired, if the original links are still in place the power will come back. The best thing to do is rebuild from archive.org tghen run it through lindexed (as well as all the inbound links) so it will get noticed by the SERPs again.

I use Lindexed to index domains. It seems to work pretty quickly. Service isn't expensive either.
