There's 2 possibilities, depending on where in the top 9 spots the posts are appearing. The top posts for each hashtag are not static, they are slightly tailed to the logged in user, so accounts that you follow (or your own account) will appear slightly higher that they would for a random user...

My posts appear to be blacklisted from getting into the top results for hashtags, even when they are actually much more popular than the stuff that does make it. Does anyone know anything more about this, i.e. if its a permanent ban or anything really?

Don't bother with the fake accounts impersonating you method, it doesn't work. I already tried it.. hired a guy on fiverr to create a bunch of accounts with names similar to mine from IPs in Africa, upload some of my content to each, and follow a few hundred of my followers to get some of them...

It's garbage. I have a really engaged audience and get over 7k likes and 700 comments on my 100k account. My comment rate is unusually high, but I think a typical 100k account of real followers gets 4k likes & 50 comments / photo

Thats actually a tricky question, but here are the answers: It is a violation of copyright law & IG terms to repost other people's content, even if you do give them credit, unless they have specifically granted you a license to do so. That being said, 99.9% of copyright holders will not object...

Hashtags are useless. Hashtags are only used by robots to auto-like things, and by other people who are trying to "optimize" their own hashtags. Real regular users do not interact with hashtags at all, and they play zero role in IG algorithms
