I've had images rank in Google accidentally. It seems to be a lot easier to rank for images. But the problem with images is that people just find the image, save it to their computer and never visit your site. I wouldn't waste my time trying to rank images.

I've heard a lot of good things about lindexed. I say give it a try and see if it works for you.
