There are some good advices here.. I'll just add my 2 cents. If I were you, I would start working on my SEO to outrank him. Put some backlinks on your articles, so if he only copy paste it, then you'll have more backlinks coming from him ;) This of course, assuming that the dude is really dumb :D

Noob question, how do you guys get the jump-start likes? I believe people tend to like a page if they see that others have liked it before them..

For the category - no index question, personally I would no-index parts I don't want Google to see (quite obvious hehehe), like "contact me" page for example. As for the tags, if you want people to find it from search engine, then "open" it.
