If I had to guess I would say Statspress probably requires a dynamic site to count hits properly. WP Super Cache would turn the pages into static html which Statspress wouldn't count. Stick a third party counter on the pages to see if your traffic has really dropped, or if it's just statspress...

It is a factor in your ranking, but seems to be logarithmic. Meaning the first few clicks can move your site up in the serps a good amount, but the higher it moves due to these clicks, the more clicks it will take to move it any higher.
