Do You Keep Track of Every SEO Change You Make?

Yeah, keeping track is worth it. Even a small title change can affect things, so I usually note down what was changed and when. Makes it much easier to compare results later.

I used to make several changes to my website and later forget what I had changed. For example, I might update page titles one day, change internal links the next day, and update some content a few days later.

If rankings or traffic change after that, it's hard to figure out which change actually made a difference.
Yes, I use a basic log of changes. It’s impossible to connect your rank move to the reason without one.

What to track:

Date
URL impacted
What changed (title, internal linking, body copy, and so on)
Why you did it
Baseline stats (clicks, impressions, avg position)

I used to ignore this too lol. Now I note down every major update. You don't need any paid tool for it, a basic sheet works fine.
Exactly, and including some brief information on what was done makes a big difference. Otherwise, one can easily forget why there was an improvement or decrease in ranking after a couple of weeks.

I have a basic spreadsheet that records all my SEO changes with dates this allows me to easily track changes in rankings/traffic

That's why I believe tracking every SEO change is important.

I prefer maintaining a simple SEO log with the date, changes made, target pages, and performance results.

Making changes systematically helps identify what actually improves rankings and traffic instead of guessing.

It is equally important to monitor global system updates rather than focusing solely on page level SEO tweaks. Changes to your CMS, active plugins, or website theme can impact site performance at scale. Always archive your previous configurations and log exact release dates for major deployments.

I’ve found it helpful to keep a simple log of what changed and when. Even a spreadsheet with the page, change, and date makes it easier to spot patterns later. I also try not to change too many things at once so I can understand what actually helped.

Yes, keeping a simple change log helps a lot. Even a spreadsheet with the date, the page, and what you changed is enough. Without it, you end up guessing which of the three edits moved the rankings.

It also lets you look back later and see how often you touched a page and how it did afterwards. Some pages do better when you leave them alone for a few weeks. I’d also try not to change titles, links, and content all in the same week, so it’s easier to tell what worked.
