Can too many internal links confuse google about which page to rank?

I am curious about internal linking on larger websites. if multiple blog posts target similar keywords and all link to each other using similar anchor text then could that make it harder for google to understand which page is the main one?
Would you consolidate the content, change the anchor text or create a clearer linking structure?
I would love to hear how others handle this without relying on redirects or building backlinks.
Using the same keywords on multiple pages creates ambiguity about which page is most relevant to the search i would analyze the intent behind each page and assign different purposes to each one while using descriptive anchor text it may be better to merge two articles that are discussing the same thing than creating more internal links.

I usually give each post a clear purpose. If two articles answer almost the same question, having both may not add much value.

On a big site, breadcrumbs can help show where each article belongs instead of linking every post to every other post.

Yes, too many similar internal links can blur topical relevance; I’d usually define one primary page, use supporting pages to link toward it naturally, and vary anchors where appropriate.

My suggestion is the best way a clear internal linking structure. I will also use unique natural anchor text and link relevant posts to a main page. If multiple articles target the same search, I would look at combining them. It help Google understand the links between the pages without backlinks or redirects.
