AI Overviews are taking clicks away. How are you adapting your SEO strategy?

You can only optimize for topics that aren't answered well already

What I do is to check my meta description so has competitive keywords, I also check my page if is too generic for quick search intents. These are things I can control, but when AI overview takes over PAA, there is nothing I can do. I control what I can and hope for the better

We’re seeing a shift in how users discover content, so we’re focusing less on chasing clicks and more on building search intent around our brand. Our current approach includes refreshing pages that already have impressions, targeting overlooked keyword opportunities, improving content relevance, and creating more recognizable brand signals. The goal is to turn existing visibility into qualified clicks and stronger branded searches over time.

Impressions hold but clicks drop on a lot of informational stuff.

What’s helping a bit is focusing more on brand and stuff only I can say. Pushing unique angles, case studies, and making the content harder for AI to just summarize away.

Are you seeing fewer clicks despite stable impressions?

What changes are helping you recover traffic or generate more branded searches?
Sure, updating the titles and meta descriptions improving search intent matching and building brand mentions are helping. I am focusing on branded searches and visibility across AI search platforms and google rankings

medialounge's line about no countermeasure when AI eats People Also Ask traffic hit home. I've wasted weeks polishing pages Google answers directly. T0uchMe's 'stuff only I can say' angle is the way out.

I've seen this too. People are seeing the pages, but it's not convincing them to click. I'd go in and make the titles more compelling and get the brand name in on Reddit and Quora, etc.

I concentrate on pages where the user is trying to find an example rather than the right answer. when google is able to give an ans in a few lines to the user, there is no need for the user to visit the page. It appears to me that case studies and test results should be used. I also use GSC to analyze pages that get consistent impresions but decreasing clicks.

Yeah being mentioned in Reddit and Quora also affects AEO positively in your favor.

yeah i noticed the same thing.if the page already getting impressions but people not feel a reason to click then stronger titles can help and building genuine brand mentions in places like reddit and quora can make people more familiar with the name.

These days, focusing on building authority is more important than ever. relevant backlinks and credible third party mentions can help improve brand visibility and trust.

Focusing more on long-tail keywords, search intent, and optimising content w.r.t AIO and GEO alongside SEO.......

I believe that working on long tail keywords valuable content creation and increasing brand awareness is getting more critical i would also monitor google search console to find pages that have low click through rates but steady impression rates and figure out how to make people visit your website

I’ve noticed this on my client sites as well. Impressions remain stable, but clicks don’t always follow, especially when AI Overviews answer queries directly. We’re focusing on clear, extractable answers, stronger topical authority, relevant brand mentions, and building brand visibility so clients can earn AI citations and generate more branded searches.

it seems that SEO is moving beyond rankings nd now providing an audience with a reason to click through.perhaps some original examples, comparisons nd facts that are not available elsewhere could be usefful. is there any way to track which of ur pages are losing traffic or does the loss happen for the entire website?

The basic informational keywords are getting harder to justify tbh. If google can answer the whole question in real life there is not much reason to click
Makes more sense to focus on comparisons, actual test results and free tools where people still need to visit the site to get what they want

Are you seeing fewer clicks despite stable impressions?

What changes are helping you recover traffic or generate more branded searches?
Yes, stable impressions with less click-through rate may mean something new in SERPs or changes in search intentions.

Right now, I am working on enhancing my titles and meta descriptions along with increasing the relevancy of the content.

I would compare pages before and after ai overviews appeared and focus on queries where users still need more than a quick answer.

I am verifying which queries generate clicks in GSC and focusing more on pages that assists people in deciding or buying. basic information is being consumed rapidly by AI powered responses.
