What are some common mistakes that kill reach on new accounts?

Posting regularly is not enough if the content is not engaging or if you are not interacting with others . Sometimes using too many hashtags or the wrong ones can also hurt reach. I feel like consistency plus genuine engagement makes a bigger difference than just posting a lot.

Most common issue I’ve seen is people post regularly but don’t get early engagement signals. Also low retention content, no niche focus, and using hashtags without strategy can kill reach on new accounts.

Most common mistake is posting but not getting early engagement in first 1–2 hours. Also happens when content is too broad and platform can’t define your audience yet.

common issue is poor targeting posting in the wrong communities or using irrelevant hashtags, especially on Reddit and Instagram. Also, not engaging back with comments kills momentum. Inconsistent posting and copying trends without adding value can limit reach. Focus on timing, audience fit, and authentic participation to grow steadily.

Hey BHW,
I’ve recently started a new social media account and I’m trying to understand why my reach is so low even after posting regularly.

What are some common mistakes that can kill reach on new accounts?
Low reach usually from weak hooks, inconsistent niche, or low engagement. Focus on strong first seconds, trending formats and consistency.

Started a new account and posting daily, but my reach is absolutely dead.

What are the common mistakes that kill reach on fresh accounts early on? Is it just the sandbox period, or am I missing something?

I can say with my learning experience, Posting inconsistent content, using the wrong keywords or hashtags, ignoring your audience, and not engaging with people. Also, low quality posts and expecting instant results can kill reach early.

posting without a clear niche, low watch time/engagement (especially in the first hour), inconsistent quality, spammy behavior (follow/unfollow, mass liking), and ignoring trends or audience intent. Early on, focus on strong hooks, engaging content, and real interaction over volume.

one error that i can see is being too quick to judge a new blog by what they post early on. i would try to focus on posting about issues that generatte even a small amount of feedback rather than just posting to keep up. the other one is changing everything every few days.
