I would like to build a community around the board topic. I knew of group boards from the past and people recommended them back then but I was never really interested at that time and just ignored it.

This project however I want to build community as the main focus so it becomes of interest to me now. Ideally I would like to build a community around board/s I create and then once they build up siphon them off to my own site.

So how do I go about this?

Will I have to have an amount of followers before people are interested in contributing or can I still get them engaged even on a brand new account?

i would rather make the board relevant before thinking about followers. invite creators who have something related to the topic nd inform them what they will benefit from participating. it seems that an active community is more desirable than an irrelevant board full of no partticipants.

it is not necessary to have an extensive following to begin with. rather it would be better to look for people that have similar interessts as u do nd get them to collaborate in setting up the board. this way, it will not take much time before the community gets active nd becomes valuable to all.

You can start with a new account, but I’d reach out to people in the same niche first and invite them to contribute. Give them a clear reason to join, like getting their work seen by a wider audience. A good topic and active members matter more than follower count alone.

i'd build some solid pins first so the board doesn't look empty, then approach niche creators individually. once there's real activity, you can funnel people to your site with genuinely useful resources instead of pushing links too hard.

You don’t necessarily need a big following to start. I’d reach out to creators in the same niche, explain the community idea, and invite a few active people first. Give them a reason to contribute, like sharing useful content and getting exposure, then build trust before directing people to your own site.

You can start with a new account, but you’ll need to give people a reason to join.

Find creators in your niche, engage with their content, and reach out with a clear idea of what they’ll get from contributing.

You can manually outreach to other creators to post on your boards. Engaging with their content as well make them more interested on contributing to your boards.

whether new to the platform or not users need to know what they gains from pinning things on there i would invites sm influencers personally and let them knew that their pins will definitely be seen

I'd start with a few creators in the sme niche nd see how it goes. If the board is useful to them, others might join naturally too.

Wow lots of replies since I posted! Seems this pinterest sub is active compared to some other subs! Will read properly tommorow as I am worn out now and in unwind mode :)

What I like about pinterest compared to other social media is that it is the most tasteful one I have been on such that I would be willing to add content on there I am actually interested in and not bombarded with vile spam or clickbait. Well yea there is plenty of clickbait lol but the topics are more tasteful generally unlike youtube constantly shoving some stupid US politics or jake paul down your throat when you only searched for gardening tips.

You don't need a huge following to start. Build a focused board with useful pins, then invite creators who share that interest. Clear contribution guidelines and genuine interaction will help more than follower count alone.

Yes, a more defined board with good quality pins would be a much better starting point compared to following. Once they see value and how easy it is for them to contribute, the community will start building up.

I think it's better to start with some good pins firstly. If people find the board useful, they may want to join and share their own pins too. Building a community takes time, lol.

I think that it can be started with a new account at first, but people need some motivation to participate. Focus on one specific niche and post pins regularly and interact with those who do the same. The value proposition for the contributors should be greater than the reach that the account can provide.

Absolutely, one needs a valid cause to participate in something apart from gaining some extra views. I would begin by targeting a very niche group, then make sure that the board is useful, before going into growth mode.
