Hi everyone
If everyone uses some kind of ad-blocking software, then how do websites make money? For example, I use Adblock Plus and I never see ads on Facebook. How does Facebook make money from me?

That is a very good question, because Adblock doesn't stop Facebook from making money off you; it primarily prevents you from seeing ads.

Facebook makes money from trillions of datapoints as well. What that means is it may not be making off from you through ads, but it can see your preferences, places of work, studies etc and "group" you with other people who will see its ads. And basically because you post and contribute to Facebook, Facebook is worth more even without showing you ads specifically.

They collect user information when you browse using the Facebook browser.

It's a no brainer that more trillions of users do not know that Adblockers exist, especially chrome users. So you see that without you, these guys still make from other sources

Whether I search for something or have certain interests, is Facebook still secretly collecting all of my behavior without me knowing?

You are among the very few people who know about ad-blocking software; however, Facebook does not profit from you solely through advertisements—its systems also continuously collect data on your user behavior to drive various business strategies.

Ad blockers don't really change the business model. They only prevent the ads from being displayed to that particular user.

The platform still makes money from advertisers because a large part of the user base isn't blocking the ads.

Ad blockers only hide the ads from your browser; they don’t stop the platform from having other revenue sources. Facebook mainly makes money from advertisers, while users who block ads simply reduce the impressions they can monetize from that particular user.

I think a website's revenue doesn't just depend on whether everyone sees the ad or not. Facebook has already figured out the solution to ad blockers. You are using Ad Block Plus but Facebook ads are not like normal banners, they come in your feed like normal posts under the name Sponsored, so the ad blocker doesn't catch them completely. Big platforms like Facebook have millions of business users who spend money on their advertising. Ad blockers can affect revenue, but that doesn't mean the website's revenue will be completely gone. The real difference lies in how many users are being shown ads and how effectively businesses are advertising themselves.

Even though I don't see the ads, all of my actions are still recorded by the system.

Facebook mainly makes money from advertisers paying to reach users, even if some people block ads. They also earn from businesses using Meta’s advertising tools. Ad blockers reduce your exposure to ads, but advertisers still pay to reach the rest of Facebook’s audience.

Facebook still earns from advertisers targeting other users and from your activity data, so even if you block ads they can still make money from the platform overall.

When you join their social network, you provide them with information, creating a legitimate data source they can utilize; there are various ways to monetize this beyond just your user data and features.

It just means you won't see ads anymore, but Facebook is still making money from the same source as before.

They don't lol, that's why they hate ad blocker but it's not illegal.

YouTube has some pretty solid ways to avoid it at times but updates from both sides keep rolling out.

Think you overestimate the amount of people actually use ad blockers thought.

- And most of all people that TRULY don't want to see ads will most likely not be the clients advertisers want to find and pay for.
