How much do thumbnails really affect views?

I’d check the content first, coz a good ctr wont help much if retention and viewer satisfaction arent strong enough to get more reach.
Right. A high CTR will just get them to your video, but the low retention rate will make the algorithm understand that the thumbnail lied. If your viewer duration plummets like that, impressions won’t do well no matter how good the bait.

100% its like the first thing people see. That's how it work.

I will focus on both factors, as each is important. However, for a new channel that doesn't yet have much traffic, it is better to prioritize the thumbnail, as it helps attract passing viewers.

Sometimes a video has a solid CTR but still doesn't get much reach. do you spend more time testing thumbnails or focus mainly on the content itself?
Thumb decides whether people will even click on it, but garbage pacing destroys impressions any way honestly speaking.

A good thumbnail is crucial, it acts as a gateway that draws viewers closer to your video. However, if they click through only to find the video quality lacking, they will still leave. My sincere advice is not to obsess over the thumbnail; the actual quality of the video is what matters most

If my channel were brand new, I would invest a bit more in the thumbnail than in the content itself, because I want to catch the viewer's eye.

Focusing on the thumbnail is good because it brings the right audience to the video, but I don't spend much time on it. I spend only 10% of the time I spend making the video on thumbnails, and it works.

if you use click bait thambnails that will decrease your videos impression and hook watching time. its bad for a channel. that video will never get good results for your channel. and if you use a proper thambnail according to your video. that will help your video to gain more views. so try to use proper and perfect thambnail. and add a good hook on starting of your video.

Main focus should be the on the content ofc, testing thumbnails do not take much time anyway. Check out what your competitor channels in your niche are doing in the case of thumbnails, try it out, you'll see major differences.

If ur thumbnail attracts clicks, but your video isnt meeting its promise, then growth will be difficult regardless i would recommend testing out a hook before changing ur thumbnail again.

Thumbnail matters a lot for getting the click, but if the video loses people fast YouTube won’t keep pushing it. CTR gets them in, retention keeps it alive.

I think both are important for attracting viewers, but if your channel is new, invest more in thumbnails. Don't overuse AI it will get lost among a sea of similar thumbnails.

CTR isn't meaningful in isolation. A video shown mostly to a highly targeted, already-interested audience can have a great CTR without necessarily generating signals that lead to broader distribution.

Thumbnails are extremely important because they determine whether viewers will click on a video and watch it. I always choose thumbnails that spark curiosity and make viewers want to click, and this approach has been really effective.
tbf, it is the thumbnails that get the click, but the title and first few seconds have to make the impact. Curiosity is great, but misleading thumbnails will definitely backfire at some point in time.

thumbnails can have a big impact on getting the click but a good CTR alone doesn’t guarantee more reach i’d test thumbnails when CTR is weak but if CTR is already solid i’d focus more on retention viewer satisfaction and the content itself
well yeah, i would make CTR the primary indicator rather than the entire picture. But once that’s taken care of, retention and satisfaction would be my second focus.

test test test. A thumbnail can change everything but if ctr is already healthy then I’d start blaming the video itself before the thumbnail

If you have a solid CTR but still don't get reach, try changing your keywords or posting at busier times.
Targeting the correct audience is tough, but regular posting makes the algorithm trust you, share your content with people, and helps you get good reach,

Thumbnails help attract clicks, but content keeps people watching. If CTR is good but reach is low, I'd also check audience retention and viewer engagement. I'd focus on both rather than thumbnails alone.

the thumbnail mainly get people give the video a chance but it not carry the whole thing if your ctr is already looking good spend more time improving the video itself and checking where viewers are dropping off
